I go to the military advisor screen and compare my military with, say, the Americans. He says "Compared to these guys we have a strong army!" So I jump for joy, but then go to the I go talk to the Americans in the diplomatic screen and the little dude in the corner says something like 'the americans outnumber us! thats not good...' (something like that, I was so angry  )

Help? (who should I believe?)

Well, when your military Advior compares armies of nations he takes into account the strength of the units being used. When your Forign advisor says "They outnumber us," it means just that. Theye have more units that you do, but your are more advanced. I know this because I'm always ahead in the tech race, but never build large armies unless I'm preparing for war.

Actually, I don't think the Military Advisor takes strength into account. If I recall, it's just sheer numbers. (I'll try to find a link and edit it in)...however, why the FA and MA would disagree, I have no clue.

another way to see a conflict sometimes is by planting a spy and observing the troops of another country and comparing them to your own. then compare your own comparisons :mischief: to the comparisons of the military advisor.

ive noticed that military advisors have an even lower appreciation of artillery than even the ai nations do ;)

I believe that changed with PTW. Last thing I recall on the subject is that offensive units count more heavily than defensive units and that it's determined by attack and defense factors, so generally more advanced units will weight the comparative strength the advisor gives you.

I've found that I sometimes need to 'refresh' the advisor on the military screen. So if the first selection is Civ A, it will say "These guys outnumber us". Then if I select Civ B it will still say "These guys outnumber us". But if I refresh the adviser by clicking on 'more' a couple of times it will then say we outnumber them if that's the case.

Hope that helps

Ok, that makes more sense. I knew that in Vanilla it was just the number of units, so you could have one tank, and they have 100 warriors, yet you would be 'weaker'.

Thanks guys very helpful.

So the military advisor tells me how strong I am compared to the selected civ. (not nessecarily more units), while the other advisor guy tells me how many units I have compared the selected civ. (not necessarily strength)

Thanks again! :goodjob:
