Since I am going to outside of competition anyway, I decided to post a few turns before reaching MA.
After buying Civ5 for the Xmas Holidays I realized it is just as dragging as Civ4 and put it away after a couple of days. But of course I came back here to see, if there was some advice (even that is surprisingly thin at C5), only to find that the GOTM for C3C is still alive. So after some back and forth (high difficulty, only 3 days until deadline) I decided to start it anyway and treat it as a training experience.
Next month I will play it for real.
I settled 2 ne which looked ok, but proved a pain when trying to set up rings, as all reasonable dist3 location where on bgs.
So instead I settle RCP 2,4,6 and hope that doesn't prove horrible in the midgame.
I researched Alpha on minimum but that was probably a wrong decision, as i was a couple of turns late for Philo. Also the currgahs took quite a while because of this and I was only making contacts once I reached Philo.
I was fortunately able to find to unconnected island with 2 civs each, so I hope there is a bit of tech trading potential in the future, also the india/zulu island is a bit ahead on the curve.
Barbs have been a minor hassle so far, but I fear the point, where somebody enters the MA, as I have at least 2 villages on the far reaches of my island.
Going for philo and not finding contacts until late meant a late start on granaries, which delayed the creation of Settler factories, but I still have about 15 cities up by now.
right now I am reseaching for CoL and hope zto trade iit for Monarchy which america, which then could be used to buy all the leftover techs from india/zulu. so with a bit of luck I am in MA myself in 6 turns.
Overall I thought about going for space victory which should be working quite well with a scietific civ.
One more question though, so ar I have not found iron, and I was wondering if its hidden under one of my cities, but i cant remember the keyboard shortcut for showing terrain only maps? Any help here would be appreciated.
