crashes during launch under WinXP DirectX9c

I'm running an HP laptop NX7400 (Core Duo 1.83gHz) with 2gig memory and the Intel 945 graphics set. DirectX 9.0c WinXP Pro sp3 native resolution 1680 x 1050

I've installed Civ V from disk and Steam updated it. When I try to run it, a blank window (not full screen - I think it's 1024x768) labeled "Sid Meier's Civ V DX9" opens and then I get "Sid Meier's Civ V has encountered a problem and must close" window. I tried killing the opening movie in the ini file and that didn't help.

Using the error log I get this information -
"faulting module ntdll.dll - fault address 0x00108f3



Any ideas?

Not sufficient, you'll need a real graphics card, I'm sorry. And probably a better CPU.
