This usually occurs after around 2-3 hours into the game, sometimes earlier, there isn't an exact set time.

However, while a certain turn is finished, the game would suddenly crash to desktop without any error message. It just closes. When I try to load the saved game (where it crashed) it would simply crash to the desktop once again. I am using the Geforce 6800 graphics card (for laptops) and there are no heating problems as the game runs incredibly smooth. I tried disabling audio and changing audio settings as suggested previously on this board to no avail.

I understand others are having the same problem and that the new patch did nothing to fix this. I was wondering if there is another manual fix out there? One thing I did not try was to turn off autosaves. Has anyone tried that and gotten it working? Thank you for your attention.

How big is your laptops memory?

Do you run warlords? The patch v2.08 for warlords is release a few days ago. It might solve your problem.

Arto.

I have 1 gig of ram so that's not a problem. I'm just using CivIV without expansion. It turns out my friend has the same problem, we were both playing a game and we both crashed. It happens at the beginning of a turn always. Has anyone found a fix yet?

I'm having a similiar problem, but with Warlords 2.08. I've had two games crash to the desktop with no error message at the end of a turn. Reloading the save and ending the turn again just results in another crash.

My computer is fully updated and this is the first time i've had any problems with Civ 4 or Warlords, so I'm assuming its got something to do with the new 2.08 patch.

The two save games are attached if anyone could see if crash happens to them too.

No problem with me. I can run the first save file until few turn (IIRC 1545) without CTD.

I have this problem, too.

If there's no fix, Arto (or someone), will you play through a turn for me and then post a save from the beginning of the next turn? I'd much appreciate it! :)

Hopefully that'll do it. I really wanna finish this damn game! The game crashes as soon as you push the red button to end the turn.

Mechman, I'm gonna load and try yours...see if it a) works on my machine and b) see if there's any obvious similarity in the turn that may be causing the crash.

Tried opening your game in Warlords 2.08 and CTD after pressing end turn. :( Eventlog shows shows an error in cvgamecoredll.dll.

Weird. Thanks for checking. How did you view the events log? I was dying for some info.

So I ended up loading an an autosave from one or two turns before the one where it crashed and altered some things about the turn. I tried to isolate the problem, but when not capturing the British city up north resulted in the turn ending successfully, I gave up and played through. Ended up with my best score ever (24K+) and my first Augustus Caesar rating! Glad I got it going again.

I think I saved the 1844 autosave as a regular save. If so, maybe I'll try to isolate the problem again some day soon.

Oh, and MechMan, my computer didn't CTD when I played your game.

Assuming Windows XP:

Start->Run->eventvwr

or

Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Event Viewer

Look in the Application log.

EDIT: Glad you finally managed to carry on and win the game. :)

Hello, This may help with future reliability.

I have played Civ 4 without any problem for a while, but started having very regular 'crashing to desktop' problems (game was unplayable).

I found the problem (in my case) was caused by changing and saving 'options'.

If I set the 'options' before starting a new game and then do not adjust any 'options' at all either before or during game play (to the end of the game) I experience no in game or loading saved game crashes (been running ok for about a week now).

I've been having the same problem since I downloaded the 2.08 patch. Prior to this a CTD was very rare. Since then, I've had one CTD when I tried to start a single-player game for myself (it crashed right after the Spock "In the beginning" screen) and then a multiplayer game I've been playing with my friend crashed two or three times last night in about 2 hours of play. Both times we lost several turns of progress. This is very irritating...

Hi

Ive assembled a new system now as below. But, in this also, with 1.52 patch, i was able to paly the scenarios full, but after installing 1.61 patch, the game started crashing at 1220AD itself.

Intel E6300
FaxCon 975xAB motherboard
Corsair 2GB RAM with 4GB pagefile
Connect3D ATI Radeon x1900 XT 256 MB
Seagate Baracuda 240GB SATA 2 HDD

I just installed XP with SP2, DirectX 9c and the Game.

Kindly suggest me what to do now.

I am having a similar crashing problem.
Similar problem--> Warlords v2.08: Pitboss, LAN, multiplayer game.

We can't get past the Japanese player's turn. Everytime we hit enter to end the turn the game crashes to the desktop. We have tried loading both pitboss and the game on different computers and the crash still occurs. We have used older save files and still whenever we get up to the exact same point in turns Iwe get the crash.
As far as we know, our game can't proceed any further, which is pretty annoying.

I've attached the save file and the print screen of the error message. If the game is opened using pitboss, i think there is a password. The password is "trav".

I have never seen this error until version 2.08. This seems to be reported a lot, so my guess is that it is a priblem specifically with Warlords 2.08.

Any ideas about how I can get around this error and continue the game? I can't do any funny stuff with world builder beacause it's multiplayer.
