how do you get cruise missles onto carriers? I tried moving the carrier next to a port and loading from there, no luck. I don't think I had the game updated to the 1.29 version. Can cruise missles be added to battleships? Thanks for the help.

Cruise Missiles cannot be loaded into ships except for transports even then cruise missiles cannot be launched from it.

Can't cruise missiles also be launched from subs? Or is that only tactical nukes?

I know in civ2 subs could carry (IIRC) 4 cruise missiles.

Other than experimenting with cruise missiles have limited use...
Once you use it it's gone, artillery or bombers are much more useful...
i've used missiles before but i never used them in my recent games.
I consider it waste of resourses.

D- I agree that they are a waste, but they sure look  and work
pretty good ;) .

I coundn't even get them loaded onto a transport. Maybe that was a limitation of Vanilla Civ3?

They are a bit of a waste as the range was somewhat small. I could only ever see them used defensively. And if you have the scratch to be pumping them out then you probably don't need 'em.

I like cruise missiles better than artillery and bombers because they have the ability to actually eliminate units rather than reduce their HPs or destroy improvements.

To get Cruise Missiles on to Transports you have to move them on to the Transport. You can't load them when the transport is in a city.

Sure, they'll rise your weight ^^

Cruise missles are a good idea...but they just need a little more work. Heh, maybe in civ4.

The only think I like about CM's is that if you shoot them at a city they are gauranteed to hurt the military units inside as they dno't hurt buildings, the only time I build them is when I have a vast empire I will sometimes build them in a high corruption city because it takes too long to build anything else ;)

Thats what I do. If I wanna keep city just use CM's since there will be no building destroyed, and its cheap so I build in a high corruption.

I'm not a fan of the fire-and-forget CMs. Give me artillery anyday.

The good thing with CMs before C3C:
1. It can destroy unit. Artillery can reduce HP only.
2. It doesnt destroy building. So any building in the city, with exception culture building will remain there, so u dont need to build it again.
3. Its cheaps, so better build in the corrupt city (rather than building wealth).

You can load Cruise Missile (CM) in Transport (not sure about Galley, Caravel or galleon, never try). even so if you want to load CM in transport, you will need to move your transport outside the city but on a coastal time, then move your CM on a tile (NOT coastal) adjacent to your Transport, then move your CM one per one into your transport.

CM are good to sink Naval Units. I like to use Arti to redline the Naval Unit and then use a CM to finish them.

C3C CM had much alrger range dont they? i remember vanilla CM being range of 2... WTH. now they are like 5 or something. which is much more useful. However when ive used them against ships they only seem to reduce them by 1hp. for however many shields they are that seems a bit of a waste

cruise missles don't get shot down like planes, so they can destroy that pesky resource that you can't bomb, because your planes keep getting shot down.

I absolutely don't buy this....
1. they get destroyed them self after you use them and it is not known yet if you bomber will be shut down or not.
2. They are not much cheaper than bomber is
3. They have range compared to artillery so you really should compare them to artillery not bombers and cruise missiles are so much less attractive than old good artillery.

so ..... other than nice look they don't really serve much purpose

The main advantage of cruise missiles that makes up for their abysmal range is their effectiveness when compared to bombers or other bombard weapons. Using a Battleship, artillery, or bomber is a hit or miss deal, you'll get the "Artillery bombardment failed!" message as often as not. With the cruise missile, you get your results first time every time, at least in my experience.
