I don't know if this will work; it depends on how many of you are interested by literature...

I'll try it anyway and we'll see...

Question #1: He received the title of "Chevalier du Lys" when he was 14 years old by the Comte d'Artois, brother of Louis XVIII. But still he is a fervent admirer of Napoleon I. He was also a talented carpenter, a member of the parliament, admired for his painting talents, and of course his writing talents.

Who is he?

Nobody knows?
Nobody's interested?

What?

Probably both of the above

. This historical stuff is more interesting to me, esp. when compared to ancient & obscure French literature.

(If it weren't for the Guernsey clue, I'd never have gotten it!)

Okay, I'm going to try a different tack to the literature quiz ... a la "Name That Tune."

Written originally in English:

"No more firing was heard at Brussels -- the pursuit rolled miles away. Darkness came down on the field and city; and Amelia was praying for George, who was lying on his face, dead, with a bullet through his heart."

Author and Book?

write?

i found this book and checked. he worked in a kitchen in a hotel. he was washing i think.

a easy question, very easy, but i love this book:

'But man is not made for defeat,' he said. 'A man can be destroyed but not defeated.' I am sorry that I killed the fish though, he thought. Now the bad time is coming and I do not even have the harpoon. The dentuso is cruel and able and strong and intelligent. But I was more intelligent than he was. Perhaps not, he thought. Perhaps I was only better armed.
