clapyourhands submitted a new resource:
The Kingdom of Bohemia was a key player in medieval Central Europe. With its king serving as a prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire and its capital of Prague becoming the Empire's imperial residence on multiple occasions, the region was closely bound to the complexities of continental politics. Bohemians were the flashpoint for early Christian reformation movements like the Hussites, as well as the trigger for the drawn-out Thirty Years'' War that resulted in an entirely new map of Europe.
The mercenary general Jan Zizka is a Czech national hero and one of the greatest military commanders of history. Remembered for his innovation on the battlefield, he led the outnumbered Hussites against the entrenched might of the Holy Roman Empire and the Catholic Church. Using terrain, unorthodox tactics, and the element of surprise to his advantage, he never picked a fight without first ensuring he had the upper hand, and was a pioneer of guerrilla warfare. Zizka remained undefeated throughout his military career.
Civilization Ability - The Defenestrations of Prague: Military and religious units on Forts or adjacent to Wagon Forts gain +4 Strength, and melee units near Forts push weaker enemies back after attacking; they take additional damage if they cannot move. Forts unlock at Military Engineering and grant +1 Faith and +2 Production.
Leader Ability - Glorious Ride: Military and religious units gain +5 Strength when attacking onto unfavorable terrain (Floodplains and Marsh), and +3 Defense Strength when defending on favorable terrain (Hills and Reef). Killing units in military combat grants +3 Great Prophet points, and killing units in religious combat grants +3 Great General points.
Unique District - Royal Mint: Replaces the Commercial Hub and gains adjacency from Mines. Grants all Mines in this city +1 Gold, and an additional +1 Gold to Mines on Bonus or Luxury resources. Buildings in this district grant +1 Diplomatic Favor each.
Unique Unit - Wagon Fort: Replaces the Siege Tower and grants adjacent units +4 Defense Strength.
Leader Agenda - Finger of God: Likes civilizations with high Faith and Gold and happy cities. Greatly dislikes civilizations with high Faith and Gold, but unhappy cities.
GAMEPLAY
Jan Zizka's Bohemia is all about stacking up small bonuses and planning ahead to make sure battles are always in your favor. Make sure you scout battlefields ahead of time to best take advantage of terrain, and get your Forts and Wagon Forts in position to capitalize on this. Your melee units can push enemies near Forts to get them onto unfavorable terrain; combined with a Great General and a Fort boost, you can take down even the strongest of foes.
Use your early game to build up your Royal Mints and Mines to fund your expensive Wagon Forts, and make sure you defeat some Barbarians to help you get a religion up and running so you can take advantage of the bonus Great General Points from religious kills. As the medieval era approaches, get an Encampment built up so you have Military Engineers ready to build Forts as soon as you unlock them.
