Dead Sound Driver

So, it appears that for some reason the driver for my audio up and stopped working. This happened some time between last night and tonight, and I didn't get any message or anything as to why, just an error message when attempting to run audio programs. I used, apparently, Sound Max. (Yeah, I will admit I know nothing about computers.) Any ideas? Anywhere I can get a new driver?

Do you remember who manufactured your sound card?
(You can look this up by right clicking My Computer and selecting properties, click the hardware tab, and click on device manager. Provided youre on Windows)

Oddly enough it started working again . . . but I don't trust it not to stop working again.
