I was going to win a monarch game, then suddenly all the AIs on my continent made a defence pact with each over, except me. Made it impossible to attack anyone unless I wanted to lose everything in 5 turns. I waited, and waited, and waited. Hundreds of years, no change. I even tried to bribe, change religious, gift, everything... no luck.

Is the human player just screwed when this happens? I had japan down to just a couple cities and even then he was protected by everyone else on the continent. God, if I was 1/10th as bad as him EVERYONE would have declared war on me in a heart-beat!

go space victory then.

but pretty much one of them going to declear war on you in no time.
Or you can make them to do so by going into a war with another contient for a long time.

My recent monarch game just like this.

But got wipe out by my neighbour (Rommy) after my failure attempt on killing a less tech civ on the other contient. Once we were friendly, back stepping bxxxxd.

I guess early game in monarch is too important... if you didn't kill anyone before gunpower... you are in trouble anyway.

What do you mean by "all the AIs on my continent made a defence pact with each over, except me". Does that mean that all of them have defence pacts with each other? If that is the situation (very unusual), then I can't think of a way out readily. But if this is not the case, then you can pick the one with only one defencive pact. This will force the other Civ to declare war on you and its defence pacts would be cancelled. The others won't automatically declare war on you, though they may dogpile on you later (very scary on monarch). Other than that, I can't think of much that you can do.
