Declaration of War on C3B

Should we declare war on C3B now?

If we declare war on CDZ, they will aid C3B. This means that we cannot, GA or not, win a war. But I am not so sure that they will want to ally with us. If we give them the two techs, they will be obligated to help us, sinc eit will bring them into the finals. But if we presented it to them, they may tell C3B, for them they have the upper hand on knowing a attack will come. In addition, a ally in the finals.

I think CDZ diplomancy needs to be better untill then.

If we still have deal with CDZ, we should pay them the remaining balance (50g or 75g) and after they accept that deal, it would be possible to declare war. But only if CDZ will agree. It would not be in the best interest to declare war to CDZ without negotiating this with them and their agreement on the matters since it would be largely a phony war. Neither them nor us can attack each other. But they would be apparently the first to discover Astronomy and we would be facing a number of very unpleasant invaders to our Iron Island or Mainland without being able to efficiently strike back. I hope they get reasonable and can promise us not to investigate the cities or spy over our units from the galleys.

Feudalism is the key tech for the Middle Ages and it is not possible to advance beyond the first tier techs without it. Certainly, CDZ were researching it. Feudalism is needed in any case to get to Invention and further on down the path to Military Tradition.

But ... I'm not a turnplayer any longer. I might sound persuasive but might be wrong as well. Rik is the main person to evaluate our "technical characteristics" and compare them to the productivity of C3B and Emp must take a full responsibility as well. The timing is almost perfect, we can trigger GA with 70% probability which is a very decent number considering we would be able to attack a regular unit with defence 1 by our JT and have apparently better chance than attacking a full-health defense 2 veteran unit in the open. We also have advantage of the first strike possibly knocking down the offensive navy of C3B. We have made a few very attractive offers to them and still not getting any reply. They move their units freely essentially within our cultural borders obviously waiting for a good moment to strike if they chose to do so. Why give them all these opportunities? Instead, by starting the war now, initiative would be on our side as well as short-term production advantage.

However, it is evident the both rcoutme and Kuningas are somewhat hesitant about whether starting the war is the best decision at this current situation. It would be nice to hear their opinions as well. @Rcoutme and Kuningas: Please speak up on the matters, we should not hold anything back in this decisive moment. Every consideration can be important.

Of course, there is no guarantee that we are able to win the war. Obviously it will be a close call since we are essentially even in power with C3B. But we gain some initiative and a minor tactical advantage.

Declaring war to give the other team war happieness is expressly forbidden by the rules. I'd rather we not try to use that argument.

Can we get another JT in position first, just in case, or has time run out to do it that way? And do you think they'll remember to disband the warrior?

If we declare war on C3B, then we will be seen as the team who not only attempted to discredit a neighboring team, but also initiated an attack on that team as soon as they were permitted to do so. Justifed or not, I do not want to become this game's GCA in the public eye.

Vote NO WAR, and make the proper preparations to counter a C3B attack. It should come soon enough, especially if we settle north.

You have an enourmously good point, DZ.

But if we let them attack their Warrior will disband, and I fear we will not get our Golden Age.

Surely, we can use diplomacy to give us a legitimate reason to start the war?

But we can't attack next turn.

Rik: I suggest we hold the extra JT for now and pass on the save. But in a few turns we should have built up enough of a reason to attack C3B. Call it an "Pre-emptive strike". ;)
