I'm sure this has been discussed but the search on this forum doesn't work and I can't bother to manually search through 3 years of post!

So here's the question: How is a continent defined in CIVIII? since some wonders are associated with improvements in the "same continent".

Does it simply means a giant piece of landmass? For example if I'm talking about the real earth map, Europe, Asia and Africa would be one big continent? And an island would be a miniature continent, even though it may be just a tile off the mainland. ie Sicily?

thankx

Yep. It is basically defined as being one whole, contigous landmass. Once you build your capital, the "continent" where it's built can be defined as the surrounding landmass that can be accessed by land units. Once you have to cross any body of water, you are leaving the continent.

It's those One Continent Wonders that make the pangea map so popular!

I dislike Pangea Maps because of this. Continents or large Archipelagos with little water offer you late contact to other Civs, right now it is 1300 AD and I am just crossing the ocean to establish contact with the Persians/Babylonians and Arabs. :)

I agree. If I choose my own terrain, I always pick continents. The main reason is I enjoy having the Navy play a major part in my military strategy.

I think i'd *always* use real earth maps to play and using the same historically correct starting positions. Just maybe different number of CIV playing at a time.

I'm a bit of a history, geography buff, so randomly generated terrain doesn't sit well with me.
