Deleting a civilization from WorldBuilder?

Just started messing around in the WB trying to craft a balanced map which doesn't have nasty game-ruining surprises 5,000 years down the road. Anyway I accidentally added a settler from a civ which I don't want in the map. I deleted the settler but the civ still shows up as selectable in the game setup screen. How do I get rid of all traces of the civilization in question?

It's even worse.

Every time I delete the settler (and associated units) of a civ I don't want, the deletion doesn't take, and there they are standing nice and pretty on the spot where I had last deleted them. WTH am I missing here? Should I right click in the nation menu, or use the delete feature, as I've noticed units can be deep-sixed both ways.

Okay got rid of the buggers by letting the game play a turn, then deleting their cities. This editor couldn't be more annoying (or out-of-date)...
