Has anybody ever demanded tribute from AI and got it? I've never got anything from them, even if they are down to the last city and my power is like one million times larger than theirs.:dunno:

I've found that if you are powerful enough you can demand stuff from AI that you are at peace with and have never been to war with.

In Huge games on low levels, before I start my conquest rolling I usually demand a few border cities...they won't always cave, but it can give you a head start.

I don't think so, unless you re-negotiate your peace treaty as leverage for your demand, but then it's not really a demand. (I make demands via the negotiating table, not by "I demand tribute for my patience")

Never had it happen to me, but by the time I qualify to get it if I demanded - I probably don't want or need anything they have.

If the AI is down to one city, they probably don't have much to give you so it would be a good idea to go ahead and finish them.

If they still have something to give, you can usually get some techs/money/cities from them in exchange for peace. When your in the diplomacy window, choose the "We would like to negotiate peace" (something along those lines) option and see what they will give you in exchange for a peace treaty. If you just click on the "We are approaching your cities, you should think about agreeing to peace before its too late" option, then you'll get considerably less.

I totally got a rep hit for DOW in the same turn that I extorted tribute from the AI. The whole world started giving me dirty looks from that point whereas they had been fine with me until then.

Edit: I mean I successfully extorted them, they coughed up the loot, then before closing the diplomacy window I made DOW. Instant rep hit.

Hey - thanks to this thread, I tried it and I was able to extort a world map from the AI.

Carthenigen, they were at war with the Aztecs and losing badly. I was at war with Rome and advancing on them, adjacent to Carthenigen. I had the units nearby so I tried it, they coughed up some gold and the maps.

It was evilly delicious.
