Deploying Mercenaries

How do I choose where a mercenary unit is deployed? I bought a Parthian war elephant only to have it deployed automatically on the wrong side of my empire.

I think it usually deploys the unit on the last built/conquered city that you have.

You can't chose afaik.

It does say "Available in: <city>" in the merc. menu though.

You can't choose where to put it at the moment, but this would be a nice feature to implement (hint hint Rhye).

Is there a way to make mercenaries available beyond the discovery of nationalism?

yeah but sometimes the cities are completely stupid.

They should appear in your capital by default.

Then if you want the unit appear any where else you should have to pay an hire extra cost on top depending on distance.

Ie hire cost is increases as distance from palace increases.

The current system is stupid in that sometimes they appear in extremely usful places for no extra cost and sometimes not.
