There are a lot of threads about designing civs for civ 7, now this thread will talk about designing Korea that would be in CIV 7.

Here my design of Korea that would be in CIV 7

Leader: Gwanggeto
Unique Unit 1: Gaemamusa (Cataphract)
Unique Unit 2: Turtle Ship
Unique Infrastructure: Seowon

Gwanggeto is a good choice for Goguryeo leader and also good militaristic leader choice. Korea has been represented by Goryeo in CIV 4, Joseon in CIV 5 and Silla in CIV 6.

Leader: Segjong the Great

Ability: Jiphyeonjeon (Jade Hall/Hall of Worthies)- Gain a free Eureka whenever a Great Work of Writing is placed. Also gain the Hwacha UU- The first prototypes were built under his reign. Gains more combat strength if not moved that turn.

Civ Ability: Hermit Kingdom?- Greater Yields in Domestic trade routes including gold. Domestic trade routes going to cities with a Seowon bring back science and culture to origin city.

UU: Geobukseon (Turtle Ship)- Stronger combat strength in coastal water.

UD: Seowon- (Replaces the campus) When placed it yields culture for every non district tile it is adjacent to. Campus buildings would still yield science as usual.

I know it's completely a Joeson civ but why not? :)

Leader: Taejo Wang Geon: Hotaewang: Stability bonuses, combat bonuses against minor factions.
Civ Ability: Tongbulgyo: Holy Sites increase stability; religious buildings produce +2 Culture and +1 Science.
Unique District: Hanok: Unique neighborhood available early; gives a base +4 housing but gives bonus Faith for every adjacent Holy Site, Theater Square, and unimproved tile; bonus Culture for every adjacent City Center, Commercial Hub, Industrial Zone, Entertainment Complex, and Harbor; a Hanok built next to a Government Plaza gains bonus Faith and Culture.
Unique Unit: Geobukseon: Bonus combat on Coast or tiles adjacent to the Coast; stronger when defending.

I'm bored to death of hyper-science Korea so instead I present to you culture/faith/turtling Korea. I decided to ditch the ubiquitous Seowon for the traditional Korean housing, the Hanok.

Good designing for Joseon Korea, Sejong can return as alternative leader for Korea as I believe new Korean leader can lead Korea like Jangsu and Gwanggeto instead. Hermit Kingdom that denotes Joseon during mid Joseon when Joseon was isolated Kingdom, an interesting name for civ ability.

I like your design for Korea, isn't your design based on Goryeo? (except Geobukseon)

Indeed. Goryeo was the golden age of Korean Buddhism, culminating in Tongbulgyo, or "interpenetrated Buddhism," a syncretic philosophy emphasizing harmony among the different schools of Buddhism (as well as Confucianism and Korean folk religion). I added the Geobukseon because it's iconic and its defensive nature synergized well with the rest of the civ. My favorite hidden detail here is that the Culture from being adjacent to Commercial Hubs and Industrial Zones is meant as a nod to Goryeo ware, the fine celadon that Korea is so famous for.

Jangsu and Gwanggeto
I seriously considered Jangsu before going with Taejo Wang Geon and doubling down on the Goryeo theme.

Honestly I think the name "Hermit Kingdom" would have made more sense as the name for Civ 6 Korea's ability, instead of Three Kingdoms. At least I think that's what they were trying to go for building farms and mines around the isolated Seowon.

I'm not very familiar with Korean history, but there are things I would like to see:
I think Korea is overly scientific, it should have more cultural and religious aspects, imo.
Seowon should give some faith too.
Turttle ships should have less movement but significantly greater strength against embarked units.

There are more unique infrastructure for Korea like Seong (any kind of fortress), Sanseong (City Wall), Tap (Pagoda), Sa (Temple), Hyeminseo (health agencies in Joseon era which could be used as hospital) and even Hallyu broadcast station :mischief::lol:

Having Seong or Sanseong as unique infrastructure can make Korea being based on Gorguyeo.

Having Tap or Sa as unique infrastructure can make Korea being religion focus civ like Silla.

Now I'm thinking if Hallyu would be a better civ ability name to represent a cultural Korea, even though it only appears from the 90s to now?

I agree, though I don't think you have to invoke Hallyu to do it.
Even though it only refers to the Korean culture wave of modern South Korea, I do think it's an interesting ability name if you want to focus on a more cultural Korea. Of course if you are going to introduce religion as well, such as Buddhist or Neo-Confucian philosophy, maybe not so much.

I think that's kind of the issue: religion goes hand in hand with a cultural Korea IMO; Korea was the epicenter of East Asian Buddhism--and Korea developed its own particular "flavor" of Buddhism in Tongbulgyo. I don't think you can have a cultural Korea divorced from religious Korea. (Though just as cultural Korea is married to Korean Buddhism, I think scientific Korea divorced from Neo-Confucianism is equally strange, yet here we are.)
