Destroying bases

Hi all,

an active but casual player of SMAC/X, I just recently stumbled upon something that never happened to me before, regarding base destruction.

I hardly do this because of the other faction's reactions, but a few minutes ago, I really had to destroy a base that was overlapping too much on a nearby base. It was in a late-stage of the game, and I had this surprising message (roughly translated from french) : The other factions have not been warned about this atrocity, thanks to our "magnetic projection". (Italic mention not sure).

I suppose this is because of a technology, but I can't really see what it can be. Anyone having a clue ?
 
Sounds like you're thinking about the communications interference caused by sunspot activity. The sunspot activity (a random event) prevents all inter-faction communication for twenty years (turns), and also prevents other factions from detecting various atrocities that you commit during this time. I'm not sure if detection of all atrocities is prevented by this, but base obliteration and nerve stapling definitely are. The message you receive is very similar to the one you reported, as well, so I'm guessing that's what you're experiencing. Happy obliterating! :)
 
Haa, you may be absolutely right : I just checked my Transmissions box, and it's indeed the case : there are interferences ! Thanks a lot, that adds even more depths to all the various things in the game ^^

I wonder if this is explained somewhere in the game or the manual ?
