Like a lot of people who've tried to install Alpha Centauri on Windows XP have seemed to, I've been having problems with terran.exe. I've seen a number of similar problems fixed on this site, I was hoping you might be able to help me out.

As soon as I run Alpha Centauri, either from clicking terran.exe or from the start menu, I get an error that reads,

"terran.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

The program immediately crashes with this message.

So far I've tried installing the version 4 upgrade patch, the windows XP compatibility patch, changing my resolution to 800x600, reinstalling a number of times, restarting my computer, changing my alpha centauri.ini settings to read "ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1" instead of "ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=0," and various combinations of the above.

This is my second installation of the program, I had it installed some time ago before uninstalling it. I'm pretty sure it uninstalled completely, though, as I uninstalled it through the start menu.

Any other ideas as to what I can do? I actually went out and bought the CD this week, so it's not a cracked copy.

If it's worth anything, here are the stats on my machine.

WindowsXP Professional
1.83 GHz
512MB RAM

Processor: AMD Athlon 2500+
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
