I just had an idea for a dip shield:

build 8 food caravans and fortify them around the radius of the city. Dips won't be able to pass them and I don't think they can bribe them, or can they?

If they are single units a dip can bribe them. Make each square a stack of two units and you are safe from being bribed. Or, just be in Democracy and your units can't be bribed, even when alone.

Haven't there been exceptions where AIs have bribed democracy units before? I thought I had heard that at some point over the years, but I could be wrong.

I know the AI has been able to bibe units using something other than a diplomat/spy, but I don't recall any bribes being done against a player in Democracy.

or just not have roads to your cities then the dips wont get the road movement bonus

Instead of caravans around a city you could also build diplomats or spies. They are cheaper then caravans and you have also the possibility to bribe any enemy unit.
