From what ive noticed some factions are coded to hate certain policies.

E.G. Yang hates anything that isnt police state, Santiago hates anything that isnt power, Morgan hates anything that isnt free market, so on so forth.

Does anyone have a complete list?

Unfortunately since demo/green/knowledge is the best policy choice for most factions, this causes most of the AIs to auto-vendetta after a while.

Factions dislike anything that counters their agenda. You can find out somebody's agenda by right-clicking a faction in the contact menu and clicking Faction Profile (think it's that one, could be something similar).

If this isn't good enough, I can compile a more complete list.

SE that faction likes :
Morgan: Free Market
Lal: Democracy
Deidre: Green
Santiago: Power
Zakharov: Knowledge
Yang: Police State
Miriam: Fundamentalist

SE that faction hates :
Morgan: Planned
Lal: Police state
Deidre: Free Market
Santiago: Wealth
Zakharov: Fundamentalis
Yang: Democracy
Miriam: Knowledge

I believe (Petek?) that factions dislike you if you haven't selected their agenda in an SE line OR the default choice (left most). The effect of an aversion is that the faction can't choose the SE; I don't believe it has a diplomatic consequence in those cases where the aversion is in a different SE line than the agenda SE.

Any ideas on the alien crossfire ones? Also thats not totally accurate...santiago hates knowledge as well(makes a comment about it if you talk to her with knowledge), deidre hates planned economics as well, so on so forth. Miriam is just batshit insane and random vendettas you though.

Here are the preferences for the SMAX factions:

Usurpers
Economics: Planned

Pirates
Values: Power

Cult
Economics: Green

Drones
Future Society: Eudaimonic

Cyborgs
Future Society: Cybernetic

Caretakers
Economics: Planned

Data Angels
Politics: Democratic

(These values can be found in the individual (faction).txt files. My understanding of how these settings affect diplomacy is:

There are four groups of SE choices: Politics, Economics, Values and Future Society. Each faction has a preference in exactly one of those four groups. It disregards any of your SE choices that are outside the group of its preferred setting. It tends to like you if you choose its preferred setting. It tends to be neutral if you use the default setting within the group. It tends to dislike you if you choose any non-default setting other than its preferred setting within the group. In particular, you can choose a faction's aversion with no consequences as long as that setting is not in the same group as its preference. Example: The Drones can't run Green, but don't object to you doing so since Green isn't in Future Society.

I use the phrase "tends to" in the above description because other factors can influence a faction's opinion of you.

I've never worked out all the possibilities, but I believe that any combination of SE choices (other than the defaults) will always cause at least one faction in a game to hate you.

In my latest game i am pacted to aki zeta 5 but she keeps probing me, even going so far as to assassinate my researchers. Her attitude is magnomious, why is she doing it?

And why is it that whenever i ask to trade research for research both aki zeta 5 and roze instead ask me for ridiculous sums of money?

While the AI is largely a mystery to me, I do know that factions with a discover priority will build probes and sometimes quite a lot of them. I assume that when they are built they are just sent off randomly to do their business, although I'ld need somebody else to comment more accurately. :)

But what i dont understand is when i offer to trade research for research why does it instead result in trading research for credits.

Sidenote : How do i break a treaty? I talked to another faction but i dont see the option anywhere.

They may have no interest in your technology, or have no technology of their own for trade.

Sidenote: Easiest ways include insulting them or demanding tribute as this'll cause them to declare war on you. Otherwise you'll need to have a unit attempt to attack on of their bases/units although this will count as a sneak attack (and therefore lower integrity).

I have fusion power, they are still stuck with impact weapons. I offer to trade my research for theirs, they insist on money. Its strange...

And in my latest game zakharov refuses to pact with me. Im even using knowledge SE but for some erason his attitude keeps dropping.

I tried giving him all my research, moving him to magnomious, but he still refuses to pact with me(gives me the "And help you further your schemes to blah blah blah" speech). Is there any way to see what the problem is?

I have conquered the Cult of Planet (they surrendered and swore to serve me) and they did serve me, but it didn't stop them from continuing to try to steal tech with probes.

Covert ops are just that, I guess - just like in the real world, it is expected that allies will spy on each other, and it's not a big deal unless you choose to make it one (via Vendetta or whatever). In my case the Hunter Seeker Algorithm destroyed his probes anyway, so it was academic.

Look at the power chart. If you are in the lead, or tied for it, chances are the AI will not pact with you unless they surrendered or were rescued. They don't want to help you cement a lead and win the game.

At that point, it might become worthwhile to just demand they ally with you, possibly with the threat of destruction?
