When starting up a direct ip mp, when I'm being a host it takes my friend ~5 minutes to join it, and when we finally get the game started, he gets disconnected atleast in my point of view. "Waiting to hear from asdf" and then it prompts to wait some more or save and continue/exit. Weird thing is, this same view happens to my friend.
We both have quite new computers (my computer is about 2 months old)both ATI display controllers and no other programs running background consuming bandwith. I was having trouble with the stability of Civ4, and uninstalled Catalyst 5.10. It was running fine (Direct ip multiplay) before uninstalling Catalyst, but afterwards could only play about 1 turn and disconnect.

MSI K8N NEO3 FSR nFORCE4 GLAN
AMD Sempron 3000+ S754
Club 3D Radeon X550 256MB PCIE

Any ideas?

just multiplayer, direct ip and create new game, leave 1 human slot available and tell your friend your ip so he/she can log in.

But addendum to my problem, i guess we just run out of memory (huge map, 1g RAM both) :(, trying with smaller map next time :/.

Seems that nobody knows this :(

We both upgraded our memory to 1.5g, and still the same problem occurs. Late in game i'm getting "Waiting to hear from sdfs", and there's plenty of memory available. What kind of play is this direct ip meant for? Is it for somekind of playing with couple friends in a same room with straight line between them?!

This is getting frustrated to play several turns and then becoming unplayable >:(

I quite happily use direct IP with 2 of my friends, so the problem is not with the software.

Tell us more about your internet connection please - dial up? router? firewalls? etc.

2m/512 adsl, with kerio firewall (allowed ports), no router.
Dunno what settings my friend has, but I don't believe it's our computers because we can play without problems the beginning and half of the game.

Connection started to fail after I had to save and take a break from the game, shutting down the game. After loading it again, those problems started almost immediately. Playing both one turn and then it was about waiting to hear from player asdf.

Don't know what else I have to tell about my comp/connection/etc?

i ll try a lot of MP game in Direct IP with some of my friends (always one and me) and alls working great (save, retry after being disconnected ...)
i ll try with an other one

But in a game with two friend no problem since we had to restore the saved game !!! One of my friend have the following message : "the save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed." and returned to the desktop....
My question is :
Must all the player open the UDP port used by the game through their modem(Nat translation or firewall) when more than two human in the game ?

if someone know an issue to allow us to continue our game ....

thx

I have the same save file problem... does anyone know how to fix this? I'm getting desperate ><

I too have the same save file problem!

We are using Direct IP MP game in a home network. All 3 computers (2 laptops and 1 desktop) were installed the same way and upgraded to version 1.52. There are no problems with the 2 laptops but when the desktop tries to connect, a windows pops up saying that the save game versions are not the same.

We can still play the game but when we save and load the game. The message "the save file you have selected is protected to ensure that the assets in your mod folder have not been changed." pops up and returned to the desktop.

Please help!!!!

all your computer have the same version of winXP?

my friend who have the error message have installed the XP SP2 but the others who working well on SP1 ....

You need to contact Gamespy online store and request the very latest MKII version of their Baked Bean Tins and Damp Piece of String. Then all will be well.

(Just j/k, sorry but I've been trying to play MP since Xmas and I needed to release some of my frustration about this very unreliable MP system).
