-nVidia DirectX10 video cards run abysmally slow
-nVidia DirectX11 video cards work extremly well
somebody mention the thing above about dx10 in this thread.

my graphic card is: http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_geforce_gt_240m_us.html
as can be read in spec: Microsoft DirectX Compute, 10.1
when I enter to dxdiag there is DirectX 11 shown there, so I got dx11 but I'm not sure if the gpu can use it well

what version of Civ should I run? I prefer good performance instead of good looking, often even play in strategic view. Do the directx9 speed up my game? alt+tab is must for me, in some other topic somebody mention about unavailable to use alt+tab when playing dx11, is it right?

That one would be one of the "abysmally slow" variety :D
Mind you, that evaluation was relative to the average performance those cards deliver on various other games. Absolutely that card is still comfortably above minimum.

DX10/11 is the same mode. If that or DX9 runs better, you would have to try out. Same for alt-tabbing ;)

In DX10/11 mode texture will not be redrawn all the time (and will look much better). Also game would be a bit easier on the RAM (on my rig, with 4850, DX10/11 version uses 0.5GB less of RAM memory).

Still, frame-rate could be slightly lower with DX10/11. On my desktop, with 4850, I pretty much don't see any difference, but on much slower notebook with 3470 mobility cards, there is around 20% performance gain in DX9 mode. Mind you, 3470 is barely above minimum system requirements. GF 240M is more then 3 times faster.

^DX10 cards benefit from texture compression too.

I think due to texture issue alone is worth using DX10/11 mode, exempt if for some reason it feels too slow in your case. Try and see.

P.S.
About alt-tabbing: I noticed that in DX10/11 mode, when alt-tabbing, game stays in background (is not minimized). You can only see desktop if you use "shown desktop", but bringing up any other window with put Civ5 up in the background.

Hi - just to let you know - I'm currently using an ATI 5870 with latest drivers and have no difficulty running DX11 with a dual monitor setup and using Alt+tab. I know you are using an Nvidai card un fortunately I don't have spare Nvidia card available that could run DX11 - however - my other PC has an 8800 card installed and alt +tabing does not cause any probelms. But then again that is only DX10. Both systems are running W7 64bit. I have NO preference as to what graphics card I use - it's always based on price :)
