Geez, my cities get overcrowed way too fast in the game, thus civil disoder happens and I cannot stop it. Any suggestions?

Don't build granaries quite so fast.

Don't switch to advanced governments until you can ensure your people will be more happy (people get pissy faster in Republics and Democracies).

In less advanced governments, take advantage of martial law AND use forced labor to weed out the whiners.

If you're having trouble with happiness, go straight for techs that will allow the construction of wonders that improve citizen moods.

Get more and MORE luxuries! Not more of the same type, but more of varying types...the more differing types of luxuries you have, the greater their effectiveness.

All you can really do about it is build temples, cathedrals, collosuems, and happiness Wonders (Oracle, Sistine Chapel, Shakespeare's Theater, etc.). When you first are notified that a city is in civil disorder, you should immediately make enough citizens into entertainers to put your city out of civil disorder. Build a temple or cathedral as soon as possible to get those entertainers back to working. Also, take note of the maximum number of military units that can be used as police in a city. I think it's 4 for Communism, 0 for Republic / Democracy, and I don't remember the rest. By stationing the maximum number of military units as police, you will both be defending the city and making people happy :)

Hope that helps :D

In the city view screen, click on a tile that's being "worked". This will remove that citizen as a farmer/miner and make them a specialist. Click on the specialist to switch their job between scientist/taxman and entertainer.

ok i must be really stupid because all I get when I click on a tile that's being "worked" is a question that asks me if I want this worker to continue or not

He's not refering to worker's that you use to upgrade the terrain with irrigation, roads, mine's, etc.

What hes refering to is your workers inside your cities.

-Click on a city that is in disorder

-The center area of your screen should show your city and its radius

-Click on a terrain tile that has a little stack of wheat or shields onit (this means it is being worked)

-At the bottom right of city view screen you should now see one of the little citizen faces turn into an entertainer.

-If you click this face he/she will turn into an taxman/scientist/or back to an entertainer.

I suggest you read the manuel because in all truths you seem a bit ignorant to some of the basics of this game. I hope that didn't sound rude as it wasn't meant to be. Other then that enjoy!

There is a very simple way to solve this. Contact the Governer by right clicking a city. You'll notice an option to have the Governer to Manage Citizen Moods. This will take care of moods. The only downside is that, sometimes, when civil disorder strikes the Governer will put a city in starvation. That will remain until the situation gets better. I prefer this since it saves time and you can also maximize certain kinds of output like food money and shields.

when i bought the game, it didnt come with a manual for some strange reason

You should have a softcopy of the manual on your CD thats in PDF format. I believe you should at least read the README file before you start the game (All this are mentioned in the README file) I usually never bother to read the manual of a game before I start until I get into some trouble but Civilization is the exception :D
