Okay that thread is absurd and I admit it. But hey, I've seen today in exhibition a car which really kicks ass... The Bugatti Veyron. That car can go fast, really fast. It's maximum speed is nothing less than 406 kph (252 mph) thanks to a W16 engine including nothing less than 64 valves for a horsepower reaching 1000 bhp. Moreover the beast is rather beautiful.

Anyway, I know what you'll say, Bugatti is maybe based in Alsace but it's an old company which had been reborn thanks to Volkwagen AG, and indeed, the technology is fully German, but still. That car is the fastest car in production. It goes faster than any Ferrari (the best Ferrari can't go faster than 350 kph). And it's sold under the ensign of a French car maker. :smug:

Here are few pictures :

Classy isn't it ? ;)

General Specifications :

Country of Origin : France.
Year of Introduction : 2004
Weight : 1900 kg (4188.8 lbs)
Engine : 72º W 16
Valvetrain : 4 valves / cylinder, DOHC
Gearbox : 7 speed Sequential
Drive : All wheel drive
Power : 1001 bhp / 747 KW @ 6000 rpm
Torque : 1250 Nm / 922 ft lbs @ 2200 rpm
Maximum Speed : 406 km/h / 252 mph
0 to 100 kph acceleration : 3.0 sec

I read a couple of days ago that the engine will be boost to 1101 horse power instead of 1001(that was originally), when the car finally comes out. The reason is, the car could reach 400Km/h but not always exactly(near it), and they wanted to make sure it could go over 400(+)Km/h more easily and/or even faster.

A nice supercar: if it delivers what it promishes, it'd be the fastest supercar ever(now, just don't ask about the price...)
I just hope, VW makes sure that all silly electronic equipment(like ESP, etc...) can be set off, like real spor cars allow and like REAL drivers want ;) (just talking, like I'm gonna buy it  )

hehe... well anyway, the guys who were beside me during the exhibition told me that the car was actually undrivable because it was too heavy and too powerful. I guess I will never be able to test it by myself unfortunately but still, I find that car really good-looking. I'm glad there are still people to make birth such cars... at least it makes us dream. :)

As for the thread's title "French cars suck", you don't need to prove it that when the French want, they take titles easily --- just look at WRC(citroen, peugeot -sp?) and F1(renault).

Well, French cannot really make cars. This car is basically German, who makes the best cars in the world. I love my BMW. And also, Americans makes nice cars too. Japanese maybe, but just not the French.

It's still a German car. :p
Well, if you look at the license plate you would realize it's immatriculated in Alsace... it's home. :)

Anyway, French carmakers can still do decent cars even if engines aren't usually bigger than a V6. If you take cars such as the Renault Vel Satis, the Peugeot 607 or the Citroen C6, they are pretty good looking... even if of course it won't ever beat a Mercedes or a BMW.

Yeah well... French cars have a pretty nasty reputation accross the Atlantic. Renault or Peugeot cars aren't considered better than the old Yugo cars. Actually, my thread was just answering to that reputation French cars aquired in the United States.

But anyway, it's clear that French car makers work well... and this not only in motor sports but also as companies. After all, Renault has bought Nissan few years ago... and knowing the bad shape of General Motors, Renault could even buy Chevy or Buick in few years. :mischief:

They always could(not to mention the legendary R5, or the best true cheap sportcar like Rally).

Just leave Mercedes out: it's not a REAL sportscar :D , and btw, the French cars have begun closing the distance from the German cars in all aspects. They get better every time.

Isn't this the car that's been delayed two years for a host of problems? They had some serious stability problems, and one test car was destroyed in testing, and one actually spun out during a press conference. The project has gone through a couple of heads during the mess too. And yes, this car sucks. Over a million dollars for an uncomfortable, barely drivable beast?

That would be a very cold day in hell.

I would not let a buyout of such evil magnitude go untouched by my Congressman. Also, GM is doing quite well now that they did their "Employee Pricing For Everyone" deal. Also, GM has a government contract for Hummers, so as long as there is a US Military, there will be GM.

All car companies fear the "Big 3".

I'll stick with a GT 500, Pantera, Yenko Camaro, or any other muscle from the Golden Age of American Automobiles.

Yes French cars do suck.
Most of the muscle cars you mention, can't even take a good TURN(they're designed for highways), but overall, they offer big, strong engines at a relatively cheap price(that's the good thing in the US).
I'd take the Ford GT any day, from the modern US cars(marvellous).

Indeed. That's the car. However, people were talking about 770,000 € for the car... so not over a million. We'll see what happen next. I'm not sure the story is over yet.

GM could still be bought in pieces you know. Toyota gets Hummer and Pontiac, Volkswagen gets Buick and Hummer, Renault gets Chevy, etc... :mischief:

The Big 3 ? Volkswagen AG, DaimlerChrysler and Toyota ? ;)

It's nice, but it's no Hummer H1
Sorry Perfection, but what relevance has this car with Hummer H1? The first is a supercar and the second is a big all-wheeled car(jeep/SUV).

You are incorrect, the GT 500 was used in road course races for quite a few years, and the Pantera had surprisingly good turning. I know because I have relatives that own a Pantera. But I agree, the GT is a beautiful car.

Super my butt! I'd like to
see it run through a swamp!

Yeah, the Hummer H1 is big and all-wheeled, what has the Bugati got? Nothing! It will be absolutly useless in 2 or 3 years when all the roads are melted by nuclear weapons.

They would sell the cheap car companies first, the overseas companies that are owned by GM.

VW sucks, not enough horsepower, and Toyota sucks because every one my grandparents owned had problems almost constantly. Also I have never liked Ricers.

The Big 3: General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Diamler Chrysler.
