Do Modpacks affect GOTM?

If I understand this correctly, the GOTM is played with a *.SAV file, right?

If this is the case, I would assume that it would use the default *.BIC file for it's rules.

Now from what I'm seeing, a lot of folks seem to be talking about, or actually going forward with significant changes to their default *.BIC file...

the two I'm familar with are mods that change unit strengths, and (EEEEK!) remove, or diminish corruption.

Personally I will be participating in the GOTM for purely entertainment value, so I'm not all that concerned with how I will rank against others.

However, if someone were to indeed modify their civ3 with either of these modpacks, wouldn't their potential scores and outcome be SERIOUSLY impacted by the presence of such mods?

P.S. I'm not even thinking of folks who may want to *cheat* and doing this... I'm thinking even average joe who decided he doesn't want to deal with corruption and doesn't even REALIZE that his game is MUCH EASIER than mine is.

discuss.:D

I still don't have Civ3. :( But nevertheless, I'll be able to discuss this.

There's always the code of honor. Just know you shouldn't cheat. Thunderfall said explicitly on the download page that you should use the default rules. But ofcourse I don't know how easy it is to swap between those rules.

I remember I changed the Cartaginians to the Dutch. :D But when I played the GOTM I realised the Cartaginians should be in the game.

Well, I edited the Rules and added more citynames to the german cities and converted the english names for the german citis to the german names! I hope you won't whip me for that :o

Just an idea, I'm not sure of this, but if you make a scenario, the rules you set are the ones that work. So, That can be the track to follow. I believe the scenarios have their own bic files with their rules.
