Do Steam Achievements work with mods?

Can anyone tell me if it is still possible to unlock Steam Achievements with mods enabled? In particular, do they work with mod components that do not actually change the game (e.g. Easy City Management, Info Addict, Extended Plot MouseOver Popup)? How about mods like Random Events or Emigration?

I really want to give some of these mods a try but I don't want to stop achievements from unlocking.

I was afraid that would be the case. Oh well, never mind. Maybe I'll finish the achievements first and then start using mods after.

Its not entirely true that mods disable the steam achievements. You can't earn an achievement while playing with a mod enabled, but you can earn towards achievements. For example I played a stack of modded games BEFORE playing a real game, and in my first real game I earned the "Here Ends the Noble Savage" achievement when I razed my FIRST barbarian encampment. So I suspect the achievements that are based on numbers of things built can be earnt towards in a modded game.

Thanks for that. Means that I won't have to wait until I've done all the "build 1000 roads/mines/etc." achievements.
