I would probably use Republic there. More warfare would be pointless, and all those cities means lots of unit support. Or you can wait for Communism, but Republic is about the same in that situation in terms of gold.
Well, maybe you are behind one age because you have 100+ cities (90% of them essentially useless), and a huge military? And not a Republic with 20 prosperous size-12-since-1000-years-cities?
3 Luxuries are 4 happy faces. Cathedrals...what's that? Can you build those without being REL at all ?
Without having looked at your game at all , I'm leaning towards no Republic, because 1) you're not REL, and 2 anarchies (another one for communism) at this point is too painful. 2) War Weariness does carry over from one government to the next. All the WW that's masked by Monarchy now would cripple you the moment you become a Republic.
Heh, that was a major exaggeration, by the way. My actual total is somewhere around 60.
I only have a few cities with granaries, and they were built around the same time I founded them (sad, I know). I put most of my emphasis on the military early in the game.
My plan was already to advance straight to Communism. However...things still aren't looking so good. I made peace with the French, got a luxury from them (in exchange for one of mine), and then used it as an excuse to get them to join the war against the Indians. Iroquois and Germany didn't get too mad at me for it (still gracious, and they were both at war with the French), so it all worked out there. Still, with them so far ahead, I have no idea how I'm going to catch up at all. Like I said, my reputation is already shot so I can't trade for techs with gold per turn deals. Pure cash is going to be hard, since I have basically none in my treasury at the moment.
Bah, what am I doing replying here? I hope someone has looked into my saved file.
