Does the extra Science over the limit count towards a medal?

Suppose a Tech has 9000/10000 discovered, and the current MVP has 6000. If you save up 7000 and switch to that tech, does it count that you contributed 7000 or only the 1000? Meaning, do you get the medal?

Yes, its called the Selfish Medal. You get promoted to Minister of Not Being a Team Player.

Let's not be naive. Every single game I've played has had players ninja-ing my tech and my battle medals. Sick of it.

So, does this get you the medal or not?

There is no I in Team and there is no Team in CivWorld. Just a bunch of individuals working together on some goals but each working for themselves:

Or at least that is what 2K states

You are correct that civilizations are not the same as "teams" in a lot of other games. They are a collection of players with an incentive to work together to beat other collections of players, but you are still competing against the players in your civilization!

To put it in terms used in other games like Civilization 1 through 5, you can consider a CivWorld civilization to be like a collection of players who are all in a non-permanent alliance. You're all working together against common foes, but in the back of everyone's minds is the fact that in the end, the players you're working with are still your opponents, and when the time is right, you should do what is necessary to win you the game.

I have a team that doesn't do that, and we boot people who do. PM me if you are interested.

i must not be a good CivWorld player because what matters to me is that we as a civilization get the most era wins... the fact that i'm first is purely incidental (after my first top1 i don't really care at what place i will end up as long as my civilization "wins")

but then again - i don't play solo with randoms, i play with close group of people and that shifts my priorities :-)

anyway, if i had noticed that someone like Garmichael would do what he wrote - i would be pissed.

not because i would lose a medal but because he just wasted 6000 points of science (and possibly would use his position to pick wrong tech for the 25% bonus discount)

fortunatelly, i have not witnessed that yet... but i did see the reverse situation:

we are researching a tech that grants science era victory, other civilization closes on that tech very fast... and we have a person in our civ that has the missing research points but does not want to switch to the era tech because he would lose the mvp from the tech he is currently researching.

as a result, we lose that era...
