Domestic Discussion On Palace Prebuilds

Not in Valhalla. I would much rather have another wonder be started in Morgana. Valhalla is our main settler-factory.

I concur with CT. We cannot afford to stop our settler production. We are already quite far behind the others in number of cities

I agree with CT and fortyJ. I think we should do it in Morgana.

I do not think we should cut our military production in half while at war. Pre-building in Morgana would do just that.

As the mayor of Morgana, I would love to have a Great Wonder in my fair city.

However, I agree with donsig. We should wait until the war is ending before we divert it's production away from units.

I think the GL is VERY important, but we can't compromise our settling or Military operations in the process...

It's a rather pressing dilema.

As it stands now, we have the leverage to extort all of the Aztecs knowledge from them. I believe that with our current forces, we can capture/raze the two eastern cities with our current forces in the field.

Once this war ends, however, we will once again find ourselves falling behind in the tech race. If we are to keep pace, then we must build the Great Library before some other nation does! If we are to have any hopes of building that wonder, then we must commence a pre-build now!

Valhalla is obviously best used as our settler farm, so it would be foolish to use it for a pre-build. Kuhkaff and Bremershaven are too new to provide sufficient production to construct this wonder, so it falls to either Morgana or Bavaria. Since Bavaria cannot construct the Palace (the most logical pre-build wonder), it falls to Morgana.

Bavaria can continue to produce Swordsmen to reinforce our numerically superior forces on the front lines. Bremershaven and Kuhkaff can produce Spearmen and/or Swordsmen to defend the Settlers produced by Valhalla.

I propose this as our best course of action for the long-term survival of Fanatika.

well said 40. I agree whole heartedly. Morgana is a good spot to place a palace prebuild. If this proposal (hereby known as the 40J GL, for poling purposes) is agreed with, I will poll it tomorrow and ask the governor to place the prebuild in his queue. We cannot afford to loose the tech race. We are doing so now. Sure, we will be able to extort around 4-5 techs from Monty. but we wont be able to after that. The GL will help us until education, and then we will hopefully have a solid footing in the world of Science

After some reconsideration, I agree the GL pre-build in Morgana is the best choice due to Morgana's great sheild output.

Upon further consideration, Bremershaven is poised to become a productive juggernaut. Any falloff of production from switching Morgana to a Great Wonder prebuild will be more than made up for by Bremershaven.

As everyone knows, Bavaria is our most productive city, followed by Morgana and Valhalla. While Kuhkaff will grow quicker than Bremershaven, Bremershaven has access to multiple forest tiles (two with game inside), cattle, and a handful of bonus grassland tiles to boot. Shield production in Bremershaven should continue to grow by two (or more...) until the city gets to around size 5 or 6 (resulting in a total shield output of 11 or more)!

In light of this productive boon, I feel it would be unwise not to commence prebuilding for the Great Library in Morgana immediately.

Keep in mind, if we are set on the course of purchasing techs rather than trying to develop them on our own (as is the logical course of action at this level of difficulty, especially with all of the civs already in contact with each other...), then producing the Great Library will save us thousands of gold that can be used to rapidly upgrade future horsemen into knights so that we can continue to "convert" others to our cause!

well, i believe we will not manage to build the GL at all. consider how many turns are left till literature, and from my experience with the ai, as soon as we switch to a great wonder which is valuable for them they also switch (at least that happened in all my games).
so if we do not have the prebuild ready when we get lit, we would have no chance to get it as also the AI has great production advantages against us.

but if we loose the GL-building, we will have lost hundreds of shields which we could use better for attacking our neighbors and getting their techs by force.

how many shields are needed for the gl (400)? and how many do we produce in morgana(4) or even bavaria(9)?
this will lead to finish GL in:
morgana: 100 turns
bavaria: 45 turns

now how long does it take us to literature (or better: how long does it take any ai civ or us for lit?)

Just as a note for the Governor's office. The possibility of building the GL in Morgana for the great nation of Fanatika is so absurd, it will require a Council Vote to over-turn my build queues.

dis-we are 23 turns left till lit. if we swithc NOW, when we get lit we will have 67 turns left till GL. by then, we will have grown, so it would be more towards 50, or even less. Morgana is size two, with a few turns left intil it grows. When it grows, its shield output will most likly become either 5 or 6. Thats 66 turns. Let it grow some more, and in aprox 10 turns it will grow again, to 7 or 8 shields per turn. By then we will be at 55 turns left. This number will be shaved to around 48-53ish. Grow again, 30ish. It IS doable, but only if we start NOW.
And Cyc- If it takes that, so be it.

I'm actually beginning to wonder about pre-building now. IIRC, the GL is the only wonder that we'll be able to build soon. If another civ does beat us to the GL, any sheilds accumlated on the palace construction may be lost, causing more than necesary waste. We really should reconsider, unless we have a back-up wonder.

I believe we can also start building the Colossus in a coastal city and if we do lose the race to the GL, then we could switch back to the Palace and use it to construct Hanging Gardens or Sun Tzu's or ....

I agree that building the Great Library is not a sure thing, but the benefits (all that gold saved by not having to buy those techs) make it worth the risk. Also, since we should be able to put the build back on Palace to be applied towards a different wonder in the future, the shields won't be lost if we don't win the race to completion.

Well, in fact: Any player on emperor level ever managed to get the GL in the situation we are in? Please post here to convince me :-)

@disorganizer - Yes, I've frequently managed to get the GL while in an early war during the expansion phaze on Emperor level. I just don't build the bloody thing myself. That's silly.
