Hi,
I've upgraded to WinXP SP2 from winME and colonization for DOS stopped working. I downloaded dosbox, and colonization will now load, but it's very choppy (sound and graphics), slow, and the mouse is very sluggish. Are there any settings or anything in dosbox that I can change to help this, and what changes can I make?
Thank you!

Which version of DOSbox are you using?
Dosbox page suggests for version 0.62 to increase the framerate, maybe you'd like to try that.

Hi, I have the new one, 0.62. I actually got Colonization running with VDMS...I had to disable sound and disable expanded memory, but it's running fine (except for crashing when the system goes into standby, but I can deal with that)

Thank you for the response

You can use D-Fend to setup config for DOSbox. It's easy to use and you can even make shortcuts. Also, some game crashes do not occur anymore when using DOSbox, so it's really worth it.

I use it on win2k SP4 and actually don't get so much trouble. http://members.home.nl/mabus/
REALLY worth it for many DOS games.

Old thread, but an excellent game so I think it's worth reviving.

I'm running Colonization in DosBox 0.63 on Ubuntu. Sound, movies and everything work excellent, except that the keyborad doesn't work at all. I think it's because DosBox only support american keyboard layouts. Anyone else had any trouble with this?

How did you get it to work?

I'm stuck at the moment with no new ideas so it would be great if you could post any settings you made in your config file or keymapper.

YES!! I got it working. It actually wasn't that hard. I just had to change my keyboard layout to american.

I thought I already had tried this, but when I did I was actually running dosbox as root and had only changed the keyboard setting for my normal user.

It works just perfect now. Even better than back when I was playing it on a 486, now I can play Colonization in a window on my desktop and have IM, browser etc around at the same time :)
