I have been searching the forums without luck trying to learn how to create the dot maps ive seen in so many other posts. Could someone explain how to do this please. Sorry, I realize this is not an article or a direct strategy question but being able to create thes maps would help my strategic planning.

Press Alt+S, click your city site, and fill in the text box to create a sign.

Or press PrintScreen, load the screenshot in your favorite picture editor, and add colored dots.

i think most people simply use screenshots+paint. which is nice in SQ games, for myself i use the built-in marks that appear if you zoom out enough

I use the 'Line' tool on the Strategy layer quite extensively, and lets me do dot maps without exiting C4.

Only downside is they aren't saved in the save files, so it all dissappeared when you save+quit. :(

I ran into the same isuue and wanted to draw those very helpful 'dot maps', real bad!

This is what I'm doing now:

These are in-game maps, drawn when zoomed out.
I have to confess I don't remember if that's a function of the vanilla game,
or the Sevomod3.1...

Notice that whatever you draw, sign in the zoom-out is visible in the detail view also, and your MP team partnmers can see the same thing.

Hope this helps.

I use the Print Screen option (with grids turned on!) and then edit it trhough MS Paint. Very simple and easy.

Yeah, Print Screen & whatever image editor is the way to go. Those in-game lines are more annoying than useful. That said, I don't dot map. I'll start looking for a second and third city and they are usually dependent on vital resources, like copper/horses/iron, then figure out in-game how to best place a city around them. I still don't get the obsession with filling up the whole map, maybe because I used to play on huge ones before and there was no way to have useful cities all around.

This isnt answering the queston but it might be useful. When deciding on a city site, envisage the knight's move in a chess game.

1 square up 2 across. Or 2 squares up, 1 across. (Turn tiles on; cntl T)

If the resource is accessible by a knight move, it will be in the fat cross.

You can place your city to get both resources, for example, and the hills, floodplains, grassland that you want just by seeing these knight moves

thanks for all of your tips and thoughts, i will try to use your recomendations. Much appreciated

I may be wrong but my saved game in Warlord retained my dot map with the in game build in zoom out option so i dont have to redo it evrytime i quit/reload (yes i know i should not reload but its frustrating loosing your first war to a lion or high ex unit during warfare)
