I seem to be unable to download from gameflood at this time. Is there an alternative link?

You might want to have a look at 3d downloads. If you can keep trying on gameflood, it will help in the mod comp the team have entered. After it's closed on Tuesday I'll throw two torrents up on a public tracker (mod & media pack).

Any one who still has the orginal downloads, just pull the torrents and all done. on .22 15 people pulled the torrent.

It isnt at 3d downloads and as for a torrent that wont work for me as I belive the only real point to p2p is pirating software so I refuse to use it.

...wait, what? You refuse to use software because it could be used to pirate stuff, or because many people use it to pirate stuff?

Bittorrent technology is amazing for distributing large files without having powerful servers to host them, and without having to resort to http mirrors where outdated or damaged files can remain for long periods of time.

Sure, pirates find this useful, but refusing to use it for that reason is about as logical as refusing to use rar archives (since pirates package their files in those!), refusing to use CDs (since pirates burn files on CDs!) or refusing to use the internet in the first place (since it's used for piracy!).

What is the problem with the download at gameflood?
I have vista and it installed to the first layer of the C drive, not where I thought it said.

I registered first before i download. I dont have any problem downloading.

Hi!

Shoot me an email about this (nathan.woodall@gameflood.com) and I'll make sure your downloads get working!

Er, what is this gameflood:// protocol? Am I forced to install a 3rd party software just to download FFH now?

No you are not forced tp download the manager. You can download normally I got a speed of about 80k per second without the software so expect a bit of a wait

Thanks, I see it now... the GameFlood site defaults to the gameflood:// protocol if you have JavaScript disabled.

Also, I refuse to use Mr. Edison's electrical "light bulbs" for I believe their only purpose to be the perusal of lewd drawings during the ungodly hours of the night.

Seriously...don't believe the crap made out by the Music Company's...Linux is one of the biggest things shared over the bit-torrent protocol, in fact it really helps out the suppliers in getting their product to the users.

Use a safe torrent program like uTorrent, or Azureus. Then once the torrent is up we can share it round.

Look, there's probably several P2P using applications on every computer...ON EARTH (and probably a few in orbit). Let me enlighten ye:

Client-Server networking: When two computers wants to transfer files between another, one of them acts as a server and the other as a client, hence the name. The client and the server sets up a connection between each other and transfer data. This is used by FTP protocols and in some networks. The drawback is that a central server is needed but centralized administration and security is possible. Remember, THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL.

Peer-to-Peer networking (P2P): P2P networking is used to transfer files between computers, but without a server and client relation. Every connected computer can send and receive data to any other computer in the network without going through a central server. This is used by Bittorrent protocols and in some networks. The pro is that no server is needed but the con is that there is less security and no centralized administration. THIS IS NOT ILLEGAL EITHER.

To sum it up: Using these protocols is not illegal, but some of the data being shared on them might be.

And I never said it was illegal to use them but they were designed with the purpose of sharing copyrighted materials. It is my personal preference that I not use them and I dont support the use of them. If you want to share legitimate files with someone there are other ways to do it.

"they were designed with the purpose of sharing copyrighted materials."

You might as well accuse the Internet itself of encouraging the sharing of copyrighted materials, since it was made to transfer data between computers...

EDIT: http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/13.01/bittorrent.html "Cohen showed his code to the world at a hacker conference in 2002, as a free, open source project aimed at geeks who need a cheap way to swap Linux software online." Well now, unless Linux is illegal, you were wrong.

I am not wrong; as the original design of P2P was for sharing music files, ever heard of napster? The current evolution is irrelevant as far as I am concerned. I know as well as you that 99% of people using P2P software are illegally downloading software, movies, and music.

You are very wrong indeed.
Peer-to-peer technology was NOT originally created for sharing music files. (Ever heard of Usenet? Perfect example of early use of peer-to-peer technology.)

Since the current evolution is irrelevant, and the origin has nothing to do with piracy, where is the problem again?

The first P2P technology (RFC) was developed in 1969. I say again: 1969. That was before Napster had even been conceived.
