I can't figure out how to properly download ".SAV" files of games created by players using PCs. Is it possible to play a 1.21 game createc on a PC on a Mac, using the 1.21 beta version?

The same is true of utilities like Mapstat. In this case, I get either a Java ".JAR" file, which I don't know how to execute, or an "attachment.php" file.

I've looked at all of the threads in this forum, and haven't found the answers to these questions. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as there are some tourneys I would love to play in.

Yea, just place the downloaded files in your scenerio folder. Then, load it like a scenerio. I've been playing an old GOTM w/ the beta-patch and its running fine.

Dojoboy, thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately, I'm missing something.

Downloading the .SAV file from Apolyton (using IE or Netscape 4.7) gives me an "attachment.php" file that doesn't show in the Scenario folder. If I change the name to "something.bic," it shows, but upon trying to open it, I get an error message saying "could not open - file may be corrupt."

I have attached an IE link to the thread where the saved game in question - "Bismarck of the Germans" - can be found (low on the page. If you have the time to download and try to open it, maybe I'll learn something.

Is there a program or utility that I may not have and, need?

Thanks again for your help.

Just select the file 'attachment.php' and unstuff it. You will end up with a folder and the files inside.

Thanks, Aox, but that didn't work. I eventually got help from a guy at a Mac store who's a Civ3 beta tester (!). He had me:

1) download the .sav file on Netscape - not IE.
2) the file is listed as a .php. but I save it as a .sav file.
3) put it into a Civ3 folder, and start it up.

And speaking of beta testing, Brad, whenever I finish a game on 1.21, I am not eventually taken to the HOF. I usually end up exiting, clicking on HOF, and then have it slowly load.

Thanks for your effort. It's really appreciated.

Hi,
I have used PC files occasionally as well as downloaded a couple PC saved games. As to the "attachment.php", every time I have encountered that it has indicated a ZIP file. All I do is rename the file "attachment.zip" or whatever (as long as it ends in ".ZIP". The comp asks if I really want to change it from .php to .zip and I say yes. I then double-click on it & unstuffit. Then it is in a format I can easily use.

Thanks, David. It seems like a lot of people encountered the same problem from a slightly different angle, and found slightly different ways to address it. I've got this thread bookmarked, just in case I need it again.
