I tired to search for an answer to this but didn't have much luck. So what exactly does the dragon's hoard do? Or better yet, how does one use it other than picking it up and putting it back down? I have found it twice. First time, I killed Acheron and claimed it after I burned the city to the ground. The second time, another civ beat me to it and claimed the city. I conquered the city, but again burned it down due to the location and a mass horde coming at me (I was playing no settlers). I couldn't keep the hoard that time and the CPU left it so it was this huge pile on the screen that looked pretty cool. I later claimed it and took it back home, but could only drop it or pick it up. So how does it work or does the dragon's hoard only work on the city Acheron defends?

The dragons hoard acts like sylvian lyre or crown of alkharian. Pick it up with a unit (it will appear as a spell if you are on the same tile)

go to the city you want to drop it in (new border cities are good for the 4 culture boost)
and a new "spell" will be available, to "drop the dragons hoard". Where you drop it, it will say "the dragons hoard has been built in {CITY}"

I tired that and it didn't happen. It just dropped it and any unit can pick it up again. Does it have to be the capital?

No, if you drop it in a city, it will "create" the dragon's hoard. Yes any unit can pick it up again, so you can move it from city to city if you wish.

when you "drop" it in a city you own it looks just like any other piece of equipment and can be picked up and moved to another city at any time.

However the change is, it creates a building in that city called Dragons Hoard. That building generates gold and culture every turn. It isn't a LOT but it doesn't suck either.

You do NOT get a sudden influx of 3000 gold or anything like that.

oh ok. I was expecting to have to click on something to build the building. I guess that would also explain why one of my units had an enchanted sword. I must have purchased him from that city. Thanks for the explanation

It generates 2 happy resources (1 gold and 1 gem), 4:gold:, some culture and 2 great commander :gp:. It's good enough to consider killing Acheron early to get it instead of waiting to be able to tame him.

Taming Acheron is usually 'bout my #1 quest if im the Grigori.

Why has nobody mentioned that it upgrades all eligible units to mithril weapons? That's one of the main reasons I want it in most of my games.

The Dragon's Hoard doesn't do that. Gaining access to Mithril by capturing a city (which may also happen to have the hoard in it) will to that, however.

No, my FfH version is up to date. I guess it's just been that long since I've successfully captured the darn thing. Thanks for the excuse I could have used though, Emptiness. ;)
