Any tips on the Netherlands UHV?
I'm still working on it and I honestly don't have anything that I think is particularly smart. I pretty much fail every UHV every try.

The 1st UHV is doable actually, if you sell techs and maps to keep your tech rate up you can get economics and that beautiful double merchant bonus in time. The third one I'm not sure but is possibly doable - I got to around 4 spices by 1700 or so fairly consistently so I think it's possible. It's killing all those little independent cities that scares me.

The 2nd one is the one that gives me a headache. I just can't get enough good units out in time... arquebusiers and bombards simply can't kill two, or if you're fighting the Portuguese in Mascat/Colombo, four city defence arquebusiers in time. It seems somewhat random tbh - you kind of have to hope that Portugal, Spain and Sweden settle some horsehockey colonies in North America/Asia. Because you simply can't take on the French as they'll just invade Amsterdam lol.

Hooray, finally got it. I think it's one of those UHVs too dependent on luck though:
* You kind of need the AI not to have discovered Aztecs/Inca so you can get conquerors and use those units. This is 50/50, it was probably doable without conquerors, but I'm not sure.
* You need the AI to settle the spots! This sounds obvious, but in reality I got pretty worried since the UK kept collapsing (independents don't count). In the end I managed to get luck with Portugal settling a bunch of North Brazilian cities. Good luck with some cities in Southeast Asia, as those Portuguese cities with 4 Arquebusiers aren't going down without a fight.
* You need some AIs to sell techs to. This is pretty guaranteed though.

Otherwise some tips:
* You only need one or two more East Indiamen, your starting 3 are fine.
* In theory you only need to settle: Phillipsburg (Caribbean island with spices), Adriansfort (Guyana spices), the Madagascar spices and the Makassar spices. Depending on if you are able to take other spice sources (eg, Cayenne, Tuitan, Colombo, Jakarta) you can also try settle Papua New Guinea. Some places seem too far (India and Iran), and trading is often a fools game.
* Make sure to buy units, and offset the costs by selling techs. This is difficulty level dependent, I only got like 50 gold per tech, but you might find more or less.

Another spot to look for foreign colonies is South Africa. I settled the Durban spot and it is productive enough to build a small army capable of conquering these portuguese cities.
And I guess it is possible to get 3 GM without Free Enterprise, but with Monasticism and the city square (if it is called that way). But then no GE to hurry the Trading Company...
Also there were no conquerors left when I started, I solved it by shipping my strating army to South America.
