Also known as Sangokushi Senki in Japanese. Apparently sort of like Final Fantasy Tactics but set in the Romance setting - cross betw RoTK and Dynasty Warriors 3.

I only found the following sites, nothing much except some screenshots in the 2nd link. The Japanese original has been out awhile but the US one is only shipping now apparently. :) I'm keeping a lookout on this. :D

Anyone else with more info?

the screenshots looked great, although just a few of them were from the gameplay.

Should be in stores in 2 days? Read some reviews and previews on it. Apparently, according to the reviewers, this is easily the best of the Dynasty KOEI games... Very addictive, you will lose sleep on this game. You can be one of THREE sides, (of course) and it will take about 25 hours to play through one game. So say 75 hours. BUT, the story branches out in many ways so replayability is very high. Chinese names make it tough unless you already know some of them... ;) Xun Yu and Xun You... :crazyeye: Combo tactics, as in one army can set off another and you can defeat 30,000+ enemiy soldiers in one attack! Movement is determined by morale. Each army also has "special" such as boost or fire attack, you know the drill hee... There is recruiting of officers, spying, training and building of armies... Okay, magazine review mode off.

THIS may be the game I been lookin for! Lots of replayability, strategy, turn-based, new and fresh. Hehehe... :D DEFINITELY on my play list, most likely a buy.

Oh geez, can't believe I forgot, 2 player mode! :goodjob:

Oh god! Sounds good. I wasn't even done with RoTK VII yet. Will keep an eye on it. :D

Bah, what's so hard about Chinese names? I have one myself.... :p

Sometimes those funny European names are just as hard to pronounce.... :mischief:

Sounds like RoTK, except for these combo attks (?).....

Well KD, I personally hope it is NOTHING like ROTK... ;) I could not play the damn game...

You're just hopeless at it. :p

I certainly hope it's not either. I think it's more on the tactical level (hey the name) and involving more on the unit level, rather than the grand over-strategy style of RoTK or the arcade style of DW3.

KD, I just bought DT. I will post all about it tomorrow. Hopefully I get SOME sleep tonight. ;) Looks awful purdy.

Don't know what purdy means but nobody has ever accused KOEI of graphical overbrilliance when it comes to Romance games. :) Except maybe DW3.

Aw it's definitely purdy! :goodjob: Better graphics I think than DW3, better music MOST definitely. Okay, needless to say, I stayed up past my bedtime. Reminded me of ROTK but last one I played was 4 for PS... Similar map layout. Items to be equipped by officers. No gold or payment system for officers to be bothered with. You recruit new officers by naming a current officer an envoy or spy and having him go to a city with a "civilain" or unrecruited officer that he has a relationship with. (Haven't seen any female characters yet... Maybe not far enough along...) You are given objectives that once accomplished further the storyline along. As you battle, your specific officers gain "deeds" which act as experience in a way. The more you have, the more soldiers said officer's army can have, the more tactics he can learn, the more unit types he can access. Battle system is sweet. It is a little tough to get the "Tactical Combos" going. A tactic that triggers another and so forth. Most I have laid out is 4 consecutives. May times I have done a double or triple by complete luck. If you plan it out right though... :D Most soldiers I eliminated in one move on the battlefield was 13,000 +... It will climb tonight! Oh yes, a nice little tutorial if no DT info is on your memory card so you are somewhat knowledgable when you start a game.

Okay, so I first tried Liu Bei. Lu Bu comes along and says "Hey, let's be friends." I attacked him. He proceeded to promptly kick my butt. Next game, I tried Cao Cao. Much better so far. I allied with Liu Bei, kicked Lu Bu's butt. Captured him, had him killed. Liu Bei joins me with all of his officers! So I have some cute little armies headed respectively by Cao Cao, Cao Ren, Liu Bei, and Guan Yu. Zhang Fei is a good general, and I just recruited Dian Wei. :goodjob: Unfortunately, I had to go and tell Liu Bei that I am the Chinese Badass and don't mess with me. So he claims independence and 3 of my territories along with it! I recruited Man Chong and Sima Lang, rebuilt my armies, and saved. Tonight, I will go after that treacherous coward Liu Bei.

Ah, I am so glad I bought this game! Seems similar (to me anyways) to the ROTK series, but I can actually play this one!

Sounds like fun! :D Question - Can create own new character, instead of playing one of the historical ones?

I'll definitely give it a try.

PS You won't see much of female characters. In the story itself, little of them. It's a war story after all. In the Romance games, never seen any. ;) Maybe they'll put in a few invented ones like for DW3.

Ahhh... On inside cover of the manual, there is artwork of a female so I just assumed... And in the opening cg animation of the game.

No, no create a character mode. Just the three, Liu Bei, Cao Cao, Sun Ce. But the story really does open up differently. First mission goal I had was to either ATTACK Lu Bu or to ALLY with him.

There is also a 2 player versus mode, but I know nobody who likes these strategy games like I do. Have a buddy who will do an 8 hour stretch with me on DW3 but won't even consider trying DT.

Then there probably are - female characters that is. KOEI will probably manaufacture a few, like for DW3.

As for 2 player mode, how are you going to play on the same TV, since you'll be able to see each other's moves, tactics, decisions? :mischief:

THAT I have no idea about... And it says it is versus mode... I wonder if there are others such as filler... I prefer teamwork when playin with friends for the most part... Ally with your buddy and take over China? Guess you'd have to duke it out eventually...

I don't know the whole 3 kingdoms storyline, but some from DW3 is familiar. Liu Bei went traitor on me, I captured Guan Yu for one freakin battle he was on my side, then I let him go to team up with Liu Bei again. <sigh> So I (Cao Cao) and "friends" with Guan Yu but I just know I'm gonna have to face him again here soon in battle... (I spent some 4+ hours on it last night...)

In the story (maybe real history too), Liu Bei and Zhang Fei got separated fr Guan Yu at one time. The former two went on to serve Yuan Shao whilst Guan Yu ended up with Cao Cao. Guan Yu helped Cao Cao a lot during the Battle of Guandu, where Cao Cao finished off Yuan Shao's forces.

Then when Liu Bei left and became a lord with a small army again, Guan Yu escaped and escorted Liu Bei's wife(s?) back to Liu Bei's place, in the process duelling with many of Cao Cao's best generals (ala DW3). ;)

Exactly. Since they were sworn blood brothers, one condition was that he would surrender to me (Cao Cao) if he was able to go back to Liu Bei if he located him. Another was that Liu Bei's wife not be harmed. MY next goal was to occupy Ye which was Yuan Shao's capital, so I did and Guan Yu took off with one of my good items the scum. He did that the first time around too! So now I have to defeat Yuan Tan who replaced Yuan Shao, and Liu Bei ran off to hang out with Liu Baio... Hmm... So supposedly, Cao Cao died 2 years before Liu Bei, no? Does that mean I will win without killing Liu Bei? DT seems QUITE story driven. Or I should say History driven, or at least 'Romance of the three kingdoms novel' driven... Hmm... I think I do some DW3 tonight. I stayed up too late last two nights... :mischief:

Don't know when Cao Cao died but Liu Bei died later I think, while attacking the Jing area which had been taken over by Wu. He was seeking vengeance since the Wu had killed Guan Yu (trapped at one castle) and later also Zhang Fei (due to internal betrayal), despite Zhuge Liang's warning. Sun Quan was the longest living of the three.

As for your game, it wouldn't feel like Romance if Guan Yu doesn't stick with Liu Bei. :p

Say if you play as Sun Ce, do you continue as Sun Quan after Sun Ce died? Sun Ce died quite early, while attacking Liu Biao early on.

Yes. Like I said earlier, the game consists of goals that must be reached, right? So you can have anywhere from 4 to 15 turns to accomplish each goal. But, Sun Ce dies on like the 6th or 7th goal and then you are Sun Quan. Now technically, you could be using him (Sun Ce) in 6 to 10 battles depending on how you do it, possibly more, but when he's gone, he's gone. So I am thinking I might use Tai Ci Chi (spelling?) more. Hate to level a guy up knowing I will lose him just around the corner... This game does follow a somewhat linear storyline, but you do have choices in how it branches out, and you do not have to JUST accomplish your goal. Right now in my Cao Cao game, I am to wipe out Yuan Tan in like 4 turns. I COULD go and take a city down South say from Sun Quan who I am right now NOT at war with, but I don't know what effect that would have on my game/storyline if any. And judging from starting points and surrounding area on the map, Liu Bei looks like the toughest game to get going, while Sun Ce/Cao Cao look a bit more solid. I think I might try allying with Lu Bu next time but you know he'll just jack me someday... Ah, but to have him commanding one of my armies... :goodjob:

Turn based strategy. Looks to have some good replayability to it thus far... Brings a lot of tactical thought into the batle system itself though. I need to sit down and figure out what combos work together well and string up some massive attacks. I'm really only on my second "real" game... Still haven't figured out how to get my spies into the battles... Maybe I'm not developed enough?

Reminds me of ROTK series but better! ;)
