So I haven't really played much CiV since .275 (the last patch before RA blocking got killed?), and I used to be able to beat Immortal easily on Standard Pangaea.

Since many things have changed now, I don't really know what to do in early game. Before, I used to do the one city NC start, but right now, I don't think there's an updated article on how to do it in the current version.

So is there something similar to the NC start back in .275 where I can tech up faster than my opponents and crush them with longswords (or w/e)? Right now, I'm doing the four city swords rush, which isn't working out too well..

P.S. I usually play China or Japan.

P.P.S. What does stone do? Does it just allow me to build the "stone building" in the city to increase production?

Starting at the end.

Stone is a bonus resource and as you pointed out allows you to build a Stonemasons if your city isn't on a plains tile (strange that really). Not only does it give production to the city, it boosts production from the stone tiles itself. In addition to this it gives +1 :).

If I want early Longswords it I usually rely on getting the GLib to take Philo or if I can put off building it longer, Theology. I usually have2/3 cities when I build the NC. I often go Liberty for the free GP as well. All this is leading to getting GPs and a higher base sci to get to Steel ASAP. If you can sign some RAs and focus them towards Steel that helps as well. I case you didn't know f you queue techs up the overflow from RAs will go in to the next tech queued.

WAINY's Otterman LP covers a Longsword rush. Here is the first part. I can't recall which one covers the RA manipulation.

I play emperor if that has an effect on wonder timing.

Ive played on Immortal months now. You definitely want to get NC up asap, and later at least 3 good city should grow to size 20+ with all science buildings. Its pretty normal some AIs are ahead you in science, but its only 10ish turns. Get NC, and beeline to Crossbows, you get it 100% sure, or if you want to play peacefully beeline to Education. Also occasionally theres "runaway" AIs, just go nuke them later, but not often.
