Earth 1000 Scenario, help please!

So I just bought Civ IV and the scenario that excites me most is Earth in 1000. However, I was very displeased to find that the Byzantines, the Civ I would want to play the most, are not playable in this scenario. I tried changing this fact in the world builder, and, having failed there, went in search of a relevant .xml file or mod pack but could find none to address this issue. Does anyone know how to edit which Civs are playable in a scenario? More specifically, does anyone know how to make the Byzantines playable in Earth 1000?

I really appreciate any help you could give me.

Open the map file with notepad...

I think in there you will find a way to change the civ to playable. I can't look at the files right now, but I believe it should be pretty intuitive once you see it.

thanks very much, i never thought of doing that. it was rather frustrating to me that the map file would just open the game... they really should have placed that capability in the world builder, like they did in Civ III. does the cheat mode in world builder let you edit which civ is playable? i'm at a work computer and cant check just now.

open the file in Notepad, scroll down to the Byzantines and change PlayableCiv to 1. and to make it easier, change Minor Civ to 0 (so youre not at war with everyone the whole time)

addit: youll have to uncheck "Read Only" first
