Hey i live in Saint-MARTIN,the french side of a little caribbean island. The other side is called Sint-MAARTEN(it's dutch).
ON December 31 at 7;50pm EST stream went down on the whole french side.At the beginning we thought it was a technical problem but the next day we heard that it's a strike decided by the employees of Electricité De France in Guadeloupe(that's a french overseas department).
Strike has already been running for the 10 last days in Guadeloupe.
But as this island depends on Guadeloupe although there are 180 miles between the 2 islands, the employees decided to do the strike here too.

electricity was switched on on January 1 at 9;00pm Est n is switched off at least for the half of the time.

Sometimes we get no water too.

That strike is a real catastroph for this island as it lives on tourism.
Many tourists went to other islands or went to the dutch side.
YTF did they do that on that period???That's high season n it's gonna kill the island.
It's the 1st time it happens n the french gov doesn't seem to move its ass.many merchants n cooks lost what they had.
So they did a demonstration b4 the central but it turned wrong n many people were injured. The employees of the central(mostly natives)said the demonstraters who caused trouble were white(totally wrong!!!) n now there's a big risk of ethnic disorder.
It's the 1st time i've heard of it.AN ELECTRICITY STRIKE!!!
NEVER HAPPENED IN EUROPE N THERE'S no RISK IT WILL HAPPEN.
Already happened where u live?
