Hi all. I don't come often in these parts of the forum, but I thought this one would be of value.
There's a thread in CIV VI general discussion that brings up very interesting comments and insight into the Maya civ (https://forums.civfanatics.com/thre...estion-discussion.661287/page-3#post-15865468).
An important part of the discussion was an opinion, that seems shared by many, which says that the Maya 15% malus for cities over the 6 tiles limit can seem very crippling, and that is should either be made bigger (7-8 tiles), or if not, then help the player that has to settle their Capital pretty much blindly, whilst that decision is so core to the Maya's rest of the game.
I made the following proposition, in a many post conversation with @SammyKhalifa, that I really feel would be simple to implement and would greatly alleviate the possibility of having the player settle his/her Capital in a badly chosen spot.
in short, I propose that instead of giving Maya, like all civs, a Warrior to start the game, they could be given TWO scouts. Furthermore, instead of being placed adjacent to the Settler on turn 1, they should be placed 4-5 tiles from the settler, in opposing directions.
I feel that with this simple change, tha Maya player would have the opportunity to make the decision as to where to setlle the Capital in a much more enlightened way, even allowing the player to decide to wait 2-3 turns before settling if they want a better view. Also, while 2 scouts is a littlle stronger than 1 warrior, it wouldn't be an overwhelming advantage, simply a small one, and might also affect the gameplay since you'd probably need to build military units sooner for defence.
Do you think this would be a good idea ?
thanks
