Hello!
I am a longtime Civ player with a very frustrating problem. I needed a lot of space and so I tried to unistall my vanilla Civ III, which is something that I have successfully done many times before on my Windows XP. This time though, the Install Wizard began the process (it looks like it uninstalled 1%) and then proclaimed that it was successfully uninstalled. I was in a rush and so I manually uninstalled the majority of the Civ III program which gave me enough space to do what I needed to do. In order to get the Civ III properly reinstalled then I figured that I first had to uninstall the remaining files. I then went back and attempted to remove the rest of the Civ III program (minus the Save Games folder which I moved elsewhere) but the Change/Remove Programs is showing exactly 1.00 MB remaining somewhere. I have spent about 20 hours on this, but with no real luck. I have looked on the other Posts in this Forum and don't see too much that is relevant. I did download and use a WinASO Registry Optimizer as someone suggested for the problem most similar to mine, but that did not help either. I am now stuck and do not know what else to do.
When I start the AutoRun then it does not appear as it does on the initial install with an Install Program option, but instead gives the options of Registering, Exiting, ViewReadMe etc which do work AND the options of Uninstalling or Reinstalling the Game which don't. Clicking on either of these options gives one of two results (and the same result as the Change/Remove Programs) where either the Install Wizard just fails and shows the message "Error installing iKernel.exe: (0x10000)" which is a dead end OR a message that says Confirm File Deletion -- Do you want to completely remove the selected application and all of its components? Clicking "ok" to this again results in the Install Wizard beginning as normal, but only uninstalling about 1% before it says that it is done.
I don't know if anyone has any idea what I could do in this situation but I would be extremely grateful for any and all suggestions. The only other thing that I know would possibly work would be if I were to uninstall and reinstall Windows XP which I have done twice in the past, but that would mean a huge hassle that I would really prefer to avoid.
