Error (re)installing BTS - WinXP and Win7 -CD versions

Hi, folks -- Newbie here, so maybe this has already been covered, but I didn't come across a solution...

Have been playing Vanilla, Warlords, and BTS for a while with no problems on WinXP. Decided to upgrade to Win7 & did a fresh install, updated system s/w (patches, DirectX). Vanilla and Warlords installed and ran fine, but when I try to install BTS, I get a Feature transfer error. It always fails at the same point (installing Charlemagne.mp3 in the Charlemagne mod). I figured it was a dirty CD, so I cleaned it. Same problem. Also tried another CD drive, then another BTS CD. Same problem each time. Figured maybe a bad spot on my hard drive. Defrag/scandisk didn't help.

Finally, I reinstalled XP (SP3) on another PC and repeated the process with the same result. I can't believe that I have two BTS CDs with the same bad file...something else is going on here.

btw, I also used two different vanilla CD sets, and tried patching vanilla in-game and just at install time. Always the same result.

Help from the veterans is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to CFC!

Try copying the disc to a folder on your hard drive and install from there. As you have W7, make sure that you right-click on any patches/setup file and select run as administrator rather than just double-clicking or letting discs auto-run.

It does seem strange that 2 discs fail in the same place...

Yeah, I had tried installing from a directory on the hard drive, too (copied both BTS CDs that I had) and they both still errored in the same way. Is there any way to examine the .cab files? they don't conform to the Microsoft .cab format, so I wasn't able to use any tools I had to do so.

I'll go back to my Win7 machine and try the run as admin thing and will post my results -- thanx again!
