Error when starting civi4

Hi when I load up civilisation 4, it starts loading then stops, and comes up with an error page saying 'failed to allocate video memory, try reducing graphic settings....after that it has a directory list, something about nidix92 then line 182.

Can someone please help, cheers

Is this plain Civ 4 or do you have the Warlords and/or Beyond the Sword expansions, or is it a complete version of some kind?

Is it a disc version or downloaded version?

Have you patched the game?

I bought the game from direct2drive. I bought civilisation 4 complete edition with all the expansion packs as yet I haven't installed the expansion packs.

I am running the game on a mac book pro, but installed the game in parallels - windows xp.

It may be that the expansion packs patch the original game (they do on the disc versions) so I would install them first as it may well solve your problem.

Don't try and download patches from here or firaxis, if you do need any patches you will have to get them from direct2drive, but install the expansions first as that should ensure that both vanilla and warlords are fully patched. You may or may not need a patch for BTS, the final patch for BTS is 2.19.
