I noticed a few people here that really like this game, so how about we disscuss, share experiences, and maybe get an MP game running, eh?

BTW what difficulty are you playing on? I didn't have the game for long (only a few days) but I'm playing on Normal as Austria and doing really well.

I got the game like 2 months ago, played it for a while, its really good. Gonna start playing it again soon. because i've moved off to college and won't have a net connection for like 2 weeks :( So Morrowind and EU2 are my games right now. Maybe some Civ2 scenarios or Civ3 from time to time. I might even install Colonization again.

aww man, i have EU1 *runs off to start EU1 thread*

hopefully i will have EU2 soon, but have you guys heard about Victoria?

Victoria? Nope, unless you are talking about Queen Victoria... :p

EU1 is brilliant btw (got to check it out today), but EU2 will really blow you away, you should get it as soon as possible!

SunTzu, which difficulty level do you often play on?

EU2 is a great game for single player..
I've grown countries such as Rome, and Byzantium to most powerful in the neighborhood. Austria, France, Portugal are very easy to play no real challenge growing them.. Lost as England, Novgorod. China was a strange game.. I annexed everything west of India, colonized all of north Asia to Russia. It was HUGE. Now one of the many chinaware provinces had an income of 96> Just one province yet my research amounted to under 100 per year, everybody was zounds ahead me and I thought that was pretty unrealistic.
This is all Grand Campaign btw. Poland, Sweden were pretty easy. Denmark was rough in the beginning, everybody gets really mad if you annex Mecklenburgh... Which brings up another unrealistic- Denmark declaring war on (human)countries halfway around the world. I'm sure they're not using allied ports yet they send fleets all the way like to Rome. I tried to send some their way died of attrition rounding iberia.... They take a province and there's no way you can barter with them. They always seem to get a province in asia minor all of my games.
Anyway this is all on hardest level, I read in their forum that if you lower the difficulty the AI will not go into bankruptcy as much -wrong I tested it.
How about those spite treaties? One game I tried as Ireland. My goal was to take England. Many many years went by. I would've made some gains if my allies stopped making peace with them. Finally I got fed up with these supposed allies screwing me so I turned on scotland. Boom managed to occupy all of their provinces. Then they go and make peace with Rome, giving them all the provinces I occupied.. Just screwing me over one last time hehe.
Some strategies I use.. Year 1: disband 90% of the navy upkeep is way to much to pay so early in the game for 30 ships.
Let the AI attrition their armies to death, don't engage them, cut their line of supplies, etc.
when the AI has occupied some of your provinces offer them no tribute peace eventually they'll accept, I guess when they start getting war exhaustion. If the AI is occupying alot of your provinces turn the religious toleration slider all the way down for those provinces religions.. a few months will go by and -pouf- you have a psuedo army of rebels liberating the province.
OK I'm finished all this has been played with the original game on the disk. I hear that the patch makes the game much harder. I'm going to play my newly patched game right now...

Victoria is a game I have been looking forward to since I first heard about it.

Hearts of iron is my fav game in the series. EUII is also one of my favs.

Unfortunately most of the HoI multiplayer guys dont post here anymore. Rich does though.

I'm thinking about getting HoI soon, I hear that it has much more emphasis on diplomacy and millitary strategy rather than the large amount of domestic and trade managment in EU2, so I figure it has shorter but more eventful games.

Anyway, once I get it I'll let you know and maybe we could have a game.

btw, never heard about Victoria, care to provide a link?

I heard about about a new EU but its all based on Sweden and Norway. I will try and find a link to it but its pretty hard to fine

EU2 is a great game!

I've only ever finished one grand campaign mind (400 years is a long time). I played as Spain, by the end I had Portugal, the Netherlands, some France-Germany border lands, Ireland and Italy all annexed. I won easily. I spent ages colonising. I ended up owning almost all of the Americas, North and South. There were no more than 5 provinces belonging to other powers. And I had almost all of them developed into full provinces and fully upgraded. Great game!

I also played as Wales. It was really difficult. I downloaded the EEP, I know that includes some fantasy Welsh monarchs and that but I don't know if it makes playing as Wales any easier...

I did manage to annex Scotland and all but one province of England (Anglia - capital province). But when you start as one province with medium trade income, only a reasonable supply limit and not many finances, you have to rely on massive loans to quickly build up and maintain an army for the war effort. By the time peace came about I had ridiculous inflation to deal with and so I just gave up...

I also recently got HOI. Looks a great game. I haven't really played it much though. I currently have a save game as France in 1937 (I think). I'm just trying to establish some sort of army in preperation for the German invasion. I have the Maginot line so I'm hopeful that'll be of great help but I still need to reinforce the borders. I'm trying to keep my Maginot line borders defended by smaller and more mobile forces though, with air squadrons ready to pick off any German armies. Obviously, I'm also trying to improve relations with other European nations (even Italy, can I stop them entering?), including Belgium. Maybe I should try and get military access and station my main force there...

italy is going to make a push into souther france if they are axis, not much of a push but have some divisions down there ready and able.

dont put everything into the maginot line, chances are germany will go through the northlands of belgium and Nederlands.

Two enormously important things are to have bombers and decent generals.

Ive never won as france before, but good luck to you!

@Immortal,
Obviously I haven't played the game much so anything I should know?

Any good ways to get used the game or anything? Standard tactics and strategy etc., you know, the usual.

everyones style is different.

For instance I dont build many paratroopers as they cost an insane amount of IC's to build. the US is the only country that can afford to build them but Id much rather use those IC's for techs.

Doctrines are the most important things a mainland European power can have, whether it be germany, france, italy or russia. Land doctrines are going to save you as while you and germany will probably be equal in terms of army size, germanys generals and organization will hurt you (remember that democracies can only get half organization while at peace, while dictatorships can get full organization).

Import coal and iron from africa. and build AA in any french borderland from lorraine to the channel, as you will never be able to match germany's air superiority.

for research use this strategy: land doctrines/land improvements---->air doctrines/fighter improvements

everything else is a waste of IC's, france is about survival, not victory, remember that ;)

I love EU2 I would be intrested in a MP game. I'm not too good yet. I'm playing at easy with AI agressivness at normal but my next game I plan to do normal normal.

I've played a GC as Norway, conqueres all of Scandanavia and Denmark, also some Baltic provences from Poland.

A GC as Nippon (japan) Colonised almost all of Malaysia. (Netherlands & Spain both had one colony) Philipines, Taiwan, Papa New Guinea and captured Hainan from China.

A GC as Ottomon Empire recreating the historical empire, but not conquering as much in Europe but more in the Middle East.

I have started but not finished some games as England, Delhi and Moscovey (Russia)

I am right now playing a GC as Denmark. I have conquered most of Northern Germany and parts of Sweden, I diplo annexed Norway early on, also have colonised much of Canada. My current contender is Austria which owns Southern Germany we have been fighting wars and I have been slowly increasing my land to the south.

Europa Universalis is not all based on Sweden and Norway a Swedish Company made it but you can play over 200 nations.

I really love EU2, but the game has really started to eat up my spare time.

My most enjoyable games was as Lorraine - Conquered all the French and German cultured provinces, and towards the end I took most of Spain and Italy as well, just because I could :D

Another very nice game was as Kingdom of Jerusalem where I managed to convert every single arabic province to catholisism, conquered/colonized almost all of Africa, and humiliated the Ottomans.

I play on normal btw

has anyone else had major problems acessing the forums over at paradoxplaza (EU, EU2, HoI developers)?

I havent been able to acess their forums for 4 days

I was able to get there yesterday, but I can't today. Their forums always seemed a bit unstable to me - there one day, gone the next...

Just start the game as the Mameluks, release Kingdom of J as a vassal, save the game, and start as the Kingdom (you know that you can play any country when loading a save by right-clicking the country shield and selecting any country, right?).

Ps. they start in a really bad spot, so when I started I gave them 1000 ducats in starting treasury, I just thought of it as gifts from christian Europe or something.
