So if i connect a 28" tv to the computer it'll look very bad on 1024x768?

If it is a CRT tv set, it wont be as sharp, but I'm not stopping from trying.

I imagine a HDTV or LCD TV will look about the same as a computer monitor.

If I remember correctly standard tvs are 480 by 525. Even if that number is wrong, I'm sure that the number is below 600 by 800. TV resolutions suck, which is why monitors cost so much.

I connected it up to play movies on, and my 1024x768 desktop was unreadable, even with decent sized text. You lose a lot of resolution and as Comraddict said it is good for movies only. I ended up having to connect a monitor so i could read to find the movies i wanted to play on the tv.

As the previous peeps have stated it works great for movies. Especially vcd's that look like grainy crap on a monitor will look much better on a T V set.

My friend did it at his house.
It seemed to work well, but when we used it for Age of Empires II, it was difficult to read the words

Last year, my roommate used his computer monitor as a TV (he has a TV tuner card in his computer, which allows him to watch TV on his computer). It seems like a good idea (no need for a TV, which in a college dorm just wastes space), and I was thinking of trying it, though I never bothered getting a TV tuner card to actually try it.
