Not a very good start for an expansionist Zululand. Luckily, I started the game just to see if my modifications were working...

Uh.... ouch  That happened to me once when I played as the English, having the expansionist trait wasted. Plan on finishing this? :D

No, I was not going to finish this, although it would be tempting to try and see how backward I am when I encounter the other civs... Perhaps I'll keep the save to try it out later...

Kevin: Perhaps the seafaring civs need a 2nd UU, an early small boat able to carry a single unit and move really slowly... Although that would make them a bit more powerful than they already are with the extra movement for ships which already makes it easier for them to spread around...

BTW: The above is on a huge map, so the miniscule island is even worse than it would be on a regular world map...

I've played worse. At least this island isn't 90% tundra/mountain. It would be more of a challenge to play the Zulu from this position though. You can easily get five more cities on this island. As long as you get Great Lighthouse, you've got a chance.

I love playing huge maps. When I first installed c3c after playing regular civ3 for a few months, I tried playing my first c3c game. I selected huge map and random civ. OH NO! small island! I decided I'd start another game. SMALL ISLAND AGAIN! I wanted my first c3c game to be a fun one where I conquered lots of land early on. I didn't want to wait for seafaring... So I started a third game. And for the third time... small island... I freaked out, closed c3c and played some CoD... I came back to c3c within the week and I've played about 10 games of it now w/o getting a small island.

I've tried fooling around with randomly generated maps in the editor. Nearly everytime I do a 60% water huge pangea I get starting locations distrubted on 2 seperate landmasses but when I do 60% water huge islands there is a good chance of a completely connected world.

I used to play NOTHING but HUGE maps. Then after reading War Academy I decided to go to large... I'm not sure if it's just luck or what, but it seems that the large maps have just as many bonus items as the huge maps, BUT since the map is smaller, they are closer together... any one else notice this???

interesting observation, I unfortunately have no experience on large maps, only huge or standard.

May be, like that thing with expansionist being on Demigod being most effective compared to other difficulty levels.
