Expansions on console

Hey all,

Will I need to purchase the expansions on Xbox before I can play online? I don’t know why it’s all sold separately but I’m not willing to risk so much money on both for the console version, nor do I want to waste £30 buying the base game if the DLC’s are needed for online play. If that makes sense.
