How does one go about creating fantasy named nations and giving them lists of cities? I wish to have these fantasy nations be the ones that appear on a generic terra map or whatever map I chose.

Any help will be appreciated!

Is this going to be based off of something else? D&D... Warcraft... lord of the rings, etc? Looking at names that already exist and building off of them is a good start. It may also help to look on wikipedia.

Since you ask, yes. C.J. Cherryh's Chanur series. Up to 4 different species, the cat like Hani, the primate like Mehendo'sat, the reptillian Kiff, and the Sticho. I would wish for more (up to maybe 12 different cultures), but each has a long list of possible city and leader names.

I would want these cultures to be available on any map generated.

Do you have any ideas how to complete this?

Sounds like your planing on doing a mod... this wouldn't be super hard since what your discribing won't dramaticly change the game. All youll need to do is find the art and do a bit of xml editing.

Do you know how/were to edit XML files for civ 4?

Im not familiar with C.J Cherryh's Chanur series from there i can probably look on wikipedia for some back ground information. But this is how is see it so far

Civ Species (Races?)
  • Hani (cat)
  • Mehendo'sat (primate)
  • Kiff (reptilian)
  • Stcho (?)
Im guessing you can 3 civs per race and maybe 1 to 2 leaders for each civ. Making up the names and characterestic of those leaders/civs is all up to you (put in some imagination here).

Edit: this is what i got from wikipedia:
Oxygen-breathers
  • Hani
  • Mehendo'sat
  • Kiff
  • Stcho
Methane-breathers
  • Tc'a and Chi allience
  • Knnn

Did you forget about the methane-breathers or did you exclude them on perpous?

I am unfamilure with moding Civ4. I can try but am not really to versed at much modding.

Yes, you have done some quick research! lol. Well, the methane breathers didnt have much in the way of names to draw from, nothing to really use to fill in their culture, where-as the others do have a vast cultural tradition.

Here is a naming list I found on the internet of character names found in the series, and it gives a hint as to the culture and languages:

In the book series, the Hani belong to a homeworld called Anuurn, and there are two principle contients there, Enafy and another I cant recall at the moment. The impression one gets is that Anuurn represents a planet sized "African" contient. So, in my mind I imagine the Mali culture as representing the Hani, possibly even the Egyptians.

When you say incprporating art work, I dont know what you mean. I was thinking simply to rename the leaders and cultures, and giving a new city naming list. But if more is possible, then that would be grand indeed.

Additionally, in the Chanur series, the species each have a sphear of influence in space, with maybe 10 to 15 star systems in each sphear. I was thinking the senerio could simply have maybe 5 super contients representing the different sphears, and plant the cultures on them.

What you are thinking of 2 to 3 cultures per species would be great, and then to plant them on the 5 contients would be grand too!

I can fill in more on cultures and such, I have to drag out my books. Might you be interested in aiding me on this?

This would be a perfect mod of IntCol... if you can convence grey fox to:whipped:

Edit: See link for IntCol

BTW are any of the names based on a laguage or group of languages? Are there any cities or leaders mentioned in the book...you may what to use those in your mod.

you may what to check out this tutorial to learn how to add in your civs

Yes Civfanatics has a lot to offer... just head over to the tutorial section and youll probably find at least 2 or 3 things on the subject (which are all helpful).
BTW: this one is good too

If you haven't already you should download a mod done my someone else and see how they did it and learn from it.

Wow!

This all looks complicated .... lol. I will have to work on it down the road somewhat, I was hoping for a simple add culture/cities option, or renaming it for a scenario.

I shall look into this further tomorrow, when I can see more. I dont have any access to flags or other items, they would have to be made up.

:) this isn't as complecated as some other stuff.. don't get discuraged by it. The only hard part of it is finding the art. Otherwise all of the xml editing is mostly copy-past-change.

...... ok, I have been reading the guide but think this is way beyond me. Might anyone be available and assist creating the mods?
