I'm a CivI/CivII veteran, and playing through my first CivIII has been good, but this corruption thing is a HUGE problem. The doc is completely misleading with regard to governments. I changed my gov to combat corruption and waste from monarchy to republic and then to democracy. I saw NO change in the level of corruption/waste for the cities on my newly colonized continent or any of my old cities, including the capital!!

What is the real deal with corruption in CivIII? The doc is completely useless in explaining it...

Did you get the patch?

The smaller the map, the quicker corruption gets bad. On my current game (Regent, huge, 16 civs), I have the largest civ, with the forbidden palace basically opposite my capital, and in a republic I am not having any corruption problems, Democracy should be better too. Near the beginning I experienced some moderately bad corruption (Around 60%) from cities fairly far away from my capital in despotism.

The best solution is to enter the Civ editor and increase the "number of cities" under the rules tab to 999. You still have corruption, but not the crippling kind that comes with the default settings. This is not a cheat, since all civs will benefit. If you need more specifics, go back a page or two in this thread and there is a "official corruption thread" or something like that with one guy that made the suggestion I am pointing out here.

I thought I read somewhere that the number of cities can only go up to 64. It actually goes higher though so i'm not sure.
