I know all you peeps that play on deity mode probably begin with a roaring start, so I just wonder how early have you had pollution?
When i was playing on Warlord, (don't laugh, i've only been playing for like less than a month) i had pollution in 60 B.C. i was kinda suprised too. I had one industrial age wonder already too! (leonardo's workshop)

(oh, and i kinda think its odd building bach's cathedral before he was even born!)

well playing cheiften will do that to you, my earliest pollution (prince) was probably about 1700's (i dont create heavy mines and stuff so pollution is vertually non-existant)

I have another question for all ya, what was your best start? Mine was probably where my capital had 3 (!) squares of corn, and a gold mine! It grew so fast, it soon became the most powerful city in the world with such herendus trade, i went demo and soon was flying invisible jets while the computer fiddled with Archers...

I'm trying to move up to prince level but im finding it very difficult. First, is it just me, or are the terrains becoming more rugged as you move up in skill? and it seems time goes by faster? or am i just losing it? all the other civs seem to be more powerful than me already and they are all hostile, any suggestions?

Im not Sure but i think terrain in cheaftan Dosent affect movement, so u should try warlord for a learning experience.

Yes, time goes by faster

All other civs will try to win, in cheaftan there basic objective was to suck

they also start with a few more techs than in cheaftan.

can you tell me your basic strategy, how many citie are "average" (dont lie, i used to have about 5

), how you talk to the computer, and whether you have The gold edition or the original one. Dont lie becouse your embarassed or anything, we all gotta start somewhere

i'm not playing at cheiftan, i moved up to warlord, and im playing on the classic version.

at the start, i try to expand as much as possible, but i always run into other civs and run out of land and i usually don't send settlers off in boats looking for new land, so my average number of cities i build is like 10-7. I always try to form an alliance, which rarely happens, i try to exchange maps. always say no to threats unless i can spare that tech and they threaten to cancel the alliance. I basically play defense and go for techs instead of fighting my way through, unless it is absolutely necessary.

I play on warlord - chieftain is FAR too easy.

Time probably does go faster on higher skill levels, but I think there are factors that make time SEEM to go faster on higher skill levels. On higher levels your empire normally stays smaller because it's more difficult to expand, and if you don't have to move as many units or take care of as many cities, the turns will be completed more rapidly. This is just my little theory on the matter.

I'm still on cheiftan, but I've mastered it (automobiles before the birth of Christ, anyone?). I should probably move up to warlord

20 cities is better-Dont, they wont help you-there maps are useful however-DONT give techs up if you dont have to-offence would get you more recources and land-howwever tech is always good-you can win however you want, I personally like war, but thats only becouse Everyones against me

What gives you this idea? The movement cost of terrain is the same whatever level you play on. You can make the general game settings easier by selecting the age and temperature of the world for your style of game, but even then you won't be guaranteed to start in the best place. You could get a start in the desert or jungle regions around the equator or something near one of the poles. You just have to adapt to the conditions you are given, balancing the potential of a quick start with the possibility that you may have a better-placed capital if you look around a bit first. You will only be a tiny bit behind but the special resources that you have hunted down will be invaluable later on.

Everyone has done it at one time or another so don't be bothered. The AI cheats all the time and we're just making things even.

Should i exchange knowledge with the ai or is that a bad move for me?

I will trade with them, but only following a few conditions.

First, I won't trade with them until I have Monarchy discovered. (Unless they, of course, are giving me a tech that leads to Monarchy) Because any techs that I get before that just make it take longer to get to Monarchy on my own.

Second, I won't give them key techs. Any tech that allows them to get a certain unit, or advance or wonder that I am trying for is a key tech. For example, you don't want to give them bronze working or warrior code right before you start to attack them.

Other key techs are invention, gunpowder, conscription, etc...

There is, however, a benefit to trading with the AI. This thread talks about gifting techs to your 'key civ' and that makes your research go quicker.
