I am shocked by the number of culture players here!
Diplomatic Victory is not really an option, to me it just feels like one big bug in the game. I love domination, but unfortunately I often end up winning SV because I get too focused on being nice and building everything up. However that was on Emperor, since I switched to Immortal it doesn't feel so natural to do.
I must admit, as thread opener, I was rather surpised to see CV be a clear poll winner

since most of the advice I've read and the top players seem to make it as if SV is the only way... (and they love to obsess about finish times... a thing that CV players don't really care about as long as they win in 300 turns without sacred sites ICS cheese)
I think a lot of people still love their wonders and can't do without them (after all, everyone loves the special screen and music and the feeling that you've completed a masterpiece)

and CV is basically "build all the wonders I can get away with" mode, and to me, a dozen SVs on deity doesn't feel as good as a single deity CV.
Who needs to go into space (escape mentality) when every nation on the planet is speaking your language, following your ideology, and identify with your culture (and coming to see your wonders, visit your landmarks, and listen to your music); even forcing revolutions in other nations? (seeing an autocrat going from "the terrible" to "president" in a democratic rule is just hilarious)
SV seems to be "see how fast I can finish my ship" mode, but CV allows the player to bask in the glory and magnificence of their empire and wonders for a lot of turns... A capitol with 30 wonders? yikes! (SV players don't have many wonders to bask in the glory) and to see red faces and rebels spring up in your neighbors lands until they adopt your ideology? Nothing gives me more satisfaction than inflicting -100 happiness on my warmongering neighbor, and I'm sure many others feel the same way
